Saw the trailer when I went to see Rogue One.... that was enough to put me off any notion of actually going to see the full picture.

It's not like I'll bother to see it until it's free with Amazon Prime or something like that, but I've enjoyed several video game movies more than most of the pretentious tripe spewed out by Hollywood.

But that says more about the general quality of modern movies, more than it does about anything else.

I'll stick to books and games.

Can't say this was a film that was on my list to watch, at least at a cinema. I may torture myself with the film if it comes up on Sky/Amazon at some point but even then I can imagine myself fast-forwarding through parts if it's as bad as it sounds.

One can only hope that the sequel gets canned before it sees the day of light.

"In fact, all the modern-day sequences have the atmosphere of a wake where the organisers forgot to put on a buffet." Probably best film review quote of the year and it's only January!

Shame they didn't get Uwe Boll to direct it. Would at least've been good for laugh about it's grotesquely abysmal quality. Or a cringe. Well, anything really.

Just because people are mostly drawn to crap films doesn't mean there aren't a huge number of excellent ones being made.

It would be like dropping books because of Twilight!

Often the problem with game adaptations is that too much is changed. Doom was going really well until they decided that it wasn't going to be about Hell. The imagery and the characters were actually very good, imo anyway, but removing the key element of the source material just ruined it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Warcraft film. By the standards of video game adaptions that I've seen so far, it was above average and had enough enjoyable content to interest me enough to buy a copy after watching it on Amazon's 99p rentals.

The Warcraft movie is crap as well. Sorry, but it's true.

The only video game movie adaptation I have seen so far that is fun to watch is Prince of Persia, funnily enough. Granted, it's still quite a terrible movie, but at least it's fun to watch.

Kermode & Mayo were fairly kind to the film, fwiw. I'll watch it one day, probably not cinema tho.

They should just make films, heavily inspired by a game (or set in the same universe), dont give it the same title. Then they can do what they want and tell a descent story without having to explain stuff.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a good film no? never played any of the games.

Yeah I liked the Final Fantasy film and also haven't played the games (no interest). In my mind I would like to see a Bioshock film but I'm sure it wouldn't work.

Best description i've seen of it so far [imo] was -

'It's a Dan Brown film, but with added parkour...'
