Hi guys, I've got a 32" HD TV can I use this as a primary monitor with a HDMI cable running from my TV to GPU? Will this be good for gaming? cheers and Ho Ho Ho.....
It will work and it depends how close you sit to it for gaming, Still wont be as good a monitor though
Merry Christmas mate! And what Teelze said, it will work, but the picture quality and resolution will be much worse than a monitor about 75% of the time.
cheers guys, when you guys say it will be inferior to a monitor, would I at least get xbox 360 gaming quality or is that different ?
I use a 32" tv as the monitor for one of my pc. It is not as good as a smaller or higher resolution monitor for work / reading tasks. However, some of the readability issues can be overcome with setting the text to a higher dpi and installing a piece of software called gdipp that replaces windows default text rendering engine. For media and gaming it is fine as long as you sit away from it more than you would a monitor typically.
Here is the reverse: The XBox will look "better" (but worst) on a monitor. The XBox 360 (or PS3) will look better on a monitor, so good that you'll see all the faults, and most likely notice that (like with most of it's games) are 720p upscale to 1080p, and not true 1080p, on a desktop monitor. The XBox (and PS3 and Wii), bet highly on you being far from the TV. (well in the case of the Wii, that you use a CRT (tube) TV, which give an auto-Anti-aliasing on everything, and graphics look so much better)
Your PC games will look great on a hdtv, but there would be a lot of potential for them to look better (by getting a kick-ass monitor instead)
It depends on the TV. Most 32" TV's are 720p but the actual resolution is only 1360x760. Compare that to the average 20" monitor which is 1680x1050, and it just shows you how much lower resolution a TV is - even HDTV's. There are some 32" TV's which are 1080p though, and these will be better. Really though, they do an OK job either way, if you aren't too picky. If you can sit about 2 extended arms lengths from the screen, it will look pretty good. The only problem is when you sit closer it can look a bit pixely. I have a 32" HDTV which is 720p. It's brilliant as a TV, but for gaming I'm kind of 50/50 about it. It's nicer having the extra screen size compared to my usual 20" monitor, but the lower definition means I have to sit quite far away which is a nuisance. So it's got pro's and cons either way.
