I'm still unclear on what exactly Destiny is. Supposedly it's an MMO and an FPS, but it's nothing like an MMOFPS like Planetside. It's got a storyline, but also raids? Are the two separate (e.g. Battlefield with separate single-play campaign and multiplayer mode) or is it some sort of randomised co-op-matchmaker thing? Is there an overworld, or just a sequence of maps? The website tells you naff-all, of course.

It's co-operative side is Borderlands but without the sense of humour. The competitive side is Halo with less balance and more RNG.

The two sides are not truly separate as you carry the same character between them, but in functional terms should be considered separate as what works in PvE rarely translates into PvP.

Spec's wise I am fine, the only thing frustrating about it is that they are not doing the same type of launch that they did for the consoles so for us in the UK we cannot play it at midnight on the 24th we have to wait till 6pm and there is still no info about when/if we can pre-load the game.

    Is the 'campaign' single-player, then?

You can play it solo, but it's always online and best done in a group.

I think the Borderlands comparisons can be a bit misleading. Mostly because Borderlands rained loot down upon you in an endless shower with every kill, while Destiny was much more reserved. Some might even call Destiny stingy.

But in that both are first-person shooters with RPG mechanics bolted on, it is a fair comparison.
