    Back-of-the-envelope calculations, here: $27,000 is £20,350 plus 20% VAT is £24,420.

Most expensive gaming PC Scan do: 3XS Barracuda, £10,321.85 delivered.

Launch price of a new-release triple-A title Deluxe Edition: £69.99 (based on Battlefield V).

Thus, instead of 117 ships and 163 items in a game that doesn't actually exist yet you could buy an absolutely ridiculous gaming PC and the next 201 full-price triple-A Deluxe Edition PC games, and still have enough cash left over for a decent takeaway blow-out for two.

Will Star Citizen be The Best Game Ever when (if) it launches? Let's go with "maybe." Will it be as good as 201 other games to launch between now and then combined running on a PC which is objectively way, way better than the one you're using now? I'm thinking not.

    Here endeth the rant.

I think this is for the same person who would be willing to buy the $7000 Train Simulator DLC bundle: oversized wallet, unwilling to click on aaaaaaal those shopping cart buttons (what a chore!).

Part of me knows this is for people that would consider $27,000 pocket change anyways, but it does't change my opinion of this project and funding method on the whole.

Fully expecting the hype (and players) to die well before a final, finished game is released.

Thats a lot of money even for a game that will be completed, ever.

Not sure how they are going to refund everyone all this money when it inevitably flops and someone takes them to court. In about 10 years.

If they have any sense they will have binged on alcohol, cocaine, hyper cars and porn stars - oh and OD'd by that point.

It has about as much chance as Half Life 3. Even if it's an outstanding game it will not live up to the expectation and hype of what's looking to be a ten year development cycle.

However I don't think it's ever going to be truly finished. I've had my £30 worth out of it as an interesting tech demo of what can be done, but actual Star Citizen that I oringinally Kickstarted is never coming.

GTA V supposedly cost around $137 million to develop (doesn't include a penny for marketing), if you compare the scale of the promises of GTA V and Star Citizen it is pretty easy to see that $200 mil isn't enough to make Star Citizen as promised.

Anyway, my prediction is that if it ever launches it wil be in a similar way as MMORPGs of old, barebones launch and significant content updates for years after that.

HL3 has a much better chance of coming out imo, its a much easier game to make, by a company that prints money.
But if it doesn't come out, it wont be because of the scope of the game, it will because Valve isn't a game developer anymore. Its a platform company now.

It seems to me that they're just abusing addicts, even if they're also catching the super-rich types.

They're a disgrace, and they surely know they're a disgrace.

I'm torn between "it's only visible to people who've already dumped $1,000 in the thing because they're the only ones daft enough to buy it" and "it's only visible to people who've already dumped $1,000 in the thing because somebody at CIG/RSI still has some tiny scrap of shame left in their soul about the whole thing."
