    This isn't even a new phenomena: for HEDT, the KEY requirement before considering a platform is the workload you're going to run on it. "We want to run massive heavy but unthreaded excel worksheets and want super responsive network interfaces" is a very different requirement to "we want to run a bunch of simple VMs at once on one box", and if you just go purchasing the we-had-the-older-model-and-this-is-one-higher-so-must-be-one-better model without actually consulting anyone means you deploy several thousand £2k+ per-unit workstations that everybody hates because they run like turds for the work they actually do.
    No, I'm not bitter at all.

    If most places buy pre-built workstations from OEMs like Dell, HP and Apple... and if those workstation wares are all Intel-toting, whether AMD has the single-CPU performance crown or not is largely irrelevant.
