    It should be made a legal requirement that if microsoft want to sell their software which the world had become so dependant on, updates should not be mandatory and people should have full control over what and when they choose to update. Surely at the very least not completing rigourous testing should be considered negligent at the very least.

    God, no. Feature updates, maybe, but security updates? Windows is powering enough botnets as it is, let's not make it harder for people to keep their system up to date. (Or, at least, as up to date as you can be on a platform that only releases security patches once a month...)
