Ah, Google+, the total SNAFU of half-arsed pseudo-social-media that was shoehorned into everything Goolag^H^H^H...gle... possibly could, to try to beat the dual-four-letter-word beginning with "F". To be honest, Google did some miracles to keep it alive as long as they did - it never really took off, and forcing it on people doesn't do anything except create resentment in (potential) users. The social media phenomenon is a bit like a river... it will go where it wants to, thankyouverymuch...

Nothing of value will be lost with the shutdown of Google+.

Now can the rest of social media please follow?

Well they persuaded me to stop using GMail entirely once the whole 'Google + is now your home' business started. Suddenly I had three Youtube accounts, I don't want three Youtube accounts, or three Google + accounts.... and I definitely don't want to link my personal and two work addresses.

I often get the impression that for all their success, the folks at Google/Alphabet don't actually understand how or why they got their, they just sort of do stuff and it mostly works out for them. Google + was one of the times it didn't.

    Please.

It just seems to be the modern day equivalent of gossip mongering villagers dishing out trial by mob.

I've unfollowed so many people and blocked so many pages that social media is almost tolerable.
    Almost.

My god all the bloody adverts, WITH uBlock on my browsers and DNS66 on my phone, there's just no way of getting away from them, it's just too many.
