Microsoft makes a mistake: every man and his dog has something to say about it.
Linux does something trivial: the world rejoices.
Microsoft does something positive for Linux: silence.

    Bit extreme.

Every man and his dog pretty much pay to use a Windows OS so feel they can, rightfully, complain if they need to.

Linux users are far fewer, and it's free, so any progress is obviously greated with glee.

As for being silent? Listen and you will hear.

I for one am surprised by Microsoft's move but they should be applauded.

Microsoft have done loads of positive things in the past, unfortunately they've a long and sordid history of doing a volte-face and throwing people under buses, so i assume the silence you hear is people holding their breath in anticipation of the other shoe dropping.

Well, of course, this is Microsoft we are talking about.

Rather like Electronic Arts, Facebook or Google, whenever they announce they are doing something positive, the very next thought should be and then what? Quite often they do something good to make everybody look away while they do something else very bad.

Case in point, free upgrades to Windows 10, so they can install hidden (initally at least) mass surveillance software, very altruistic.
