    Maybe they're waiting on/wanting to use/were promised the first batch of the relevant 10nm cpus.

    It is too, the CPU, Ram and SSDs use sockets and everything. By Apple standards it may as well be Lego.

    Don't worry, Apple themselves do not accept that the CPU being socked means it is modular. If you need to replace that CPU, the ONLY way Apple will provide it is as an assembly with the motherboard. They treat it exactly as if it were a soldered part.

    and if the laptops are any indicator the ssds are removeable/replaceable... but they're a proprietary connector/form factor so good luck slotting a 970 evo in there...

    plus aren't the slimline imacs glued together now? making getting at the innards in the first place a challenge...

    Well, there is the small matter that you have to remove the glued in place screen, then put your fingers uncomfortably close to the entirely unshielded power supply to take it apart. So, it might be worth just leaving it to the geniuses, they're expendable.

    Looking forward to the majority of reviews not mentioning thermals at all or doing so vaguely or in passing again.
