    Is the GPU disabled? I doubt there are yield issues with GPU, they have been fabbing out on that process for so long, would they not just be lopping out the GPU to maximize profits/margin and get more die per wafer?

    The GPU is just fused off (dark silicon), this isn't some random new set of dies taped out. Minor power benefit (Intel already power gate very well, so probably less than 1W idle power gain), slightly less minor thermal benefit (more thermal mass, more area in contact with the IHS to dissipate heat) but probably not noticeable unless you're already pushing Mad Clocks Yo. Probably saves a few bob, but loses Quicksync (if for some reason you're not just using x264) and the "Oh $#!} my GPU died!" built-in emergency video output.
