I bet a hack will be out within a month of it's release. But I don't really seeing alot of people using the hacks since the Xbox360 will pretty much be a HTPC straight out of the box. Who knows? We're gonna find out in a few short months.

As long as you don't mind no support for mp3, divx, xvid, etc. People will always want more options than MS make available on a stock machine. Then there's the piracy aspect.

mp3's is going to be the biggest killer for most peeps me thinks.
they also said that windows xp couldnt be used on more than one machine :hehe:

Hackers will 'bother' because they will not be beaten, not because there's no point in hacking it.

As per my sig, anyone who foolishly ridicules hackers to their faces is likely to get egg on their own. I'm sure the hacking community won't take that challenge laying down and will go all out to completely spread eagle the 360 security simply to prove a point.

Hackers have pretty much broken any form of encryption and protection in every hardware/software device ever created to this day. I'm sure a console isn't going to cause them too much grief, especially seeing as MS can't protect their core business software from them.

Tho i do beleive it will be hacked whether its a marketable business like psx/ps2/xbox/gc chips is another matter. i think thats what they mean.

i say give it 3 months for a poorley implemted chip
6 for a reasonable one and a year before a realiable well thought out one apears. tho a developer could get sloppy and make it nice and exploitable in a month or 2 . but thats an outside chance

I know a few people that are waiting for a hack of some sort before they buy the system.

I'll give it 3 days before someone gets an MP3 playing on the thing.

    Agreed.

You have to give Mr. Satchell props, though. He is the first person associated with MS that has publicly admitted that frankly, it's gonna get hacked sometime. I'm really stuck on this revelation, and hopefully his sensibility on the subject becomes more of a part of MS's overall thought. Because it's thoughts like these that lead to someone having the brains to say "Windows Authorization is a dumb idea...it'll inconvenience legal end-users, and the illegals will just get by it anyway...let's put our time into something else."

this thing is goin to get hacked and fast. it has some great possiblities considering the hardware in it. i already got mine pre-ordered and i can't wait till the hacks come out so i can tear it open and make it do what it should in the first place.

I agree totally. Hackers generaly hack for the sake of hacking - especially is someone says it can't be done or they're throwing in strong security measures to prevent it.

Except for the current Nagra 2 system for digital satelite signals from DirecTV and Dish Network. Yes, they were hacked when the encryption was at 64-bits, but now that they've gone 256-bit, there isn't a hack anymore.

Most peoples reasons for hacking is just the challenge (and Micrsoft have set the ball rolling), so yer I agree its gonna get a right going over. I give it 1-3 days before someone finds summin they can do on it. TBH it makes the product more interesting, why not just give us the sodding features in the first palce!!!!!

One thing that made me excited over the PSP is the hacks... Snes in your pocket?!?! thats pretty damn cool! :D

The easyest solution is to embrace moding/hacking community and take what they find useful from it and make a few quid, If somone finds a flaw it can only help Microsofts learning curve.

On the hacking front generallyGenerally, if some 16 year old kid is clever enough to totally screw over a multi billion dollar business for a day using his dads crappy Packard Bell PC he should get a slap on the wrists then a well done sticker and a job :D

Well they will just probably make a switch hack/unhack so people could play online with their hacked versions. Same like with original xbox. I wonder why MS is so tough on console hackers. Throw them off Live(thing) and void support/warranties and that's enaugh. Say: "go hack your console," but then you're on your own. However looking at GTA SA case maybe MS is afraid that hackers migh find some flaw that could possibly blame MS for something illegal. I don't know... I really don't

Anyone has any thoughs on that?

I'm sure you're probably on to something, there, Cheap. But let's not forget that one of the first hacks was being able to play pirated games. We've established previously that a console makes money based on its royalty fees from the games being sold...and once you've got that hardware/firmware in place on a console, people aren't going to voluntarily update it to prevent them from hacking. They're protecting their own interests on this in a few ways, but I think the loss of games revenue is the biggest.

If they get linux running on the thing soonish, even I'd consider getting one. As much as I hate MS and the Xbox, that's a kickass set of hardware, especially for the price.

And I highly doubt it would take three days to get MP3s playing on it, as I'm pretty confident you could use it as an mp3-cd player out of the box :p Ya never know though.

I would honestly only buy a 360 if you could use it as a pc as well.
