My xbox seems to be getting more and more sluggish by the week i think its finally on its way out heres a few things i've noticed

40 second loading times when blackops is in the drive or other games if i take it out or turn it on by opening the drive its normall

Some disks take ages to read even though there perfectly clean

The other day the drive literally stopped working the button would'nt close it and when i pushed it shut it didnt go in automatically just sat there

These are all dvd faults but it also randomly locks up and returns after minutes.,..

Never seen red rings in the time i've had it and no major issues its the 20gb hdmi model

Definately seems to be pointing to a drive on it's way out. The lockups could also be symtomatic of that.

You can pick up a replacement of fleabay for a reasonable price.

If you want to prolong its life as long as possible, try installing whichever game(s) you play most to the hard drive. My system red ringed a few weeks ago -- graphical corruption and freezing were the first signs. Then it refused to boot with a disc inside, and only through sheer luck was I able to install & finish Red Dead before my system finally failed.

    Hi,

Isn't this one of the major failing points along with the red ring problems?

Not sure what revision the 360's are up too now, but maybe they have addressed this?? I had to send mine away via the recall process (for red ring) and had a summary sheet of what they had fixed. On this sheet was a checkbox of various parts, one of which was the dvd drive.

Mine however was a `standard` red ring problem, and I have to hand it to them, their service was excellent. UPS came and picked it up - a week later UPS delivered it back and haven't had any probs since. It still ranks as one of the worst cases of flawed design ever though!

I'm assuming it's out of warranty?

Install your games to the hard drive, see if that changes anything. If it does, then it's time for you to get a new drive. Be careful though, there are several variants out there for different console revisions.

It wouldn't happen to have any warranty left, would it?

Its the 20gb falcon chip (i believe)

Yes its almost 3 years old its had a good life in comparison to some people who i here send it in 8 times a year! no red rings no replacements

Hopefully it will last another 6 months then i may just replace it with a new 250gb slim model we'll see how it goes when it works it works fine sometimes it can just be a pain
