My 360 kicked the bucket this morning as I was playing fable 2, not a RRoD, but rather the PSU light went red and it just turned off. I thought initially it had overheated, but it wasn't very warm, it's not cold to the touch and is still not turning on. According to the MS support web site it's a console fault as the PSU light is orange until I try to turn the console on. When I do the power button flashes green briefly and the PSU light goes red. Unfortunately it's out of warranty by a month, luckily I did buy a years extra warranty from game when I bought it for a tenner or so. I'd rather MS deal with it, you guys think that they'll repair it if I moan at them enough? Another unfortuneately, Fable 2 is still in the disk drive, and I can't open it Any way to get a disk out without turning on the power and without voiding the warranty?
They might sort it out if you nag enough, it cant hurt if you have a backup plan anyways. The first time i sent mine away it was out of warrenty and i had taken it appart and broke a few clips , It was however an RROD so dont know if that had anything to do with them just replacing mine. As for the manual eject theres more info HERE
Nagging them might well work at the moment as since NXE (I'm not saying it's to blame for all these RRoDs and dying consoles, but there's definitely a lot dying soon after that came out...) the official forums are full of people reporting dead consoles. Gotta send mine back this week, really hoping UPS will collect cos their depot is miles away!
try using a mate's power supply see if it actually is the xbox (you might get lucky) Hex, they should collect, They picked mine up and I'm in the middle of nowhere.
i'd say there would be no problem getting it fixed, what with all the nxe related problems. just try to blame it on that, heh. and yeah, the picked mine up as well, thank god, as i had no way of printing out my own label for it.
If its still in warranty with Game, just give it back to them and ask for a replacement. Say you bought warranty for a reason and you dont expect to wait 3-6 weeks until its fixed especially with christmas holidays here.
Doesn't quite work like that unfortunately, just had a look at the T&Cs of it, I have to ring them up and they'll organise a repair, unfortunately I'd have to pay the P&P charges which would cost a bit. I'll give MS a ring tomorrow, if they don't accept it I'll give them a moan, and if that's not enough I'll moan at the manager. Thanks for the info on the manual eject angel, now just have to find something to prod in there...
I thought the 3 year warrantee from microsoft covered all hardware failure not just rrod(i doubt they write rrod in the T&C) id try them. feck paying to fix a faulty console(even just the postage)
Well i always though the point of a console was to provide a cheap gaming platform. I have always liked sony consoles the PS2 was one of the best consoles ever(after the snes). But it kinna went a bit crazy with the PS3. The price was WAAAAYYYY to expensive and still is rather steep. The games are normaly £5 more expensive. And dont get me started on sodding blue ray disks...WTF! If Sony drop the console to under £200, get the online sorted and drop the price of games. Im sure they will sell a whole shed load. But by then im sure MS will have started on the new xbox by then.
Dont worry if its past the yr,go on microsofts site and fill in the form to have it picked up by ups for free and delivered back to your doorstep.
i think your right with that, googled it and it seems like its actually just for "3 flashing lights" it says general hardware failure indicated by 3 flashing lights, think thats where i got my wires crossed. id borrow a psu from someone else and if its that get a cheap one off ebay like if theres no power at all goin to the 360 it pretty much has to be the psu. make sure to disconnect anything connected by usb, i know crossed wires or mixed up wires gives a red light on a psu(experiments with fans dont ask lol)
It's definitely the console, there's quite an indepth article on the MS support site, if the PSU is dead the light is either red or off. In my case it's orange and turns red when I try and turn the console on. According to them that makes it a console problem, the PSU is just shutting down to stop further damage to the console. My hard drive is fine though luckily, used it on my brothers 360 when we were playing RB and L4D last night. b1g-d0g, they won't let me do it that way as it's warranty has expired and it's not a RRoD, if I try and file it online they ask for billing information.
