iirc for a marginal increase in spend, you traded the overclockability for 2 extra cores

Surely they didn't release it earlier because they had to respin the current generation after the recently-announced MDS vulnerabilities?

    £158

But as consumers we don't really have any reason to care about launch price, just current price and when this is your competition and you hacked off the gpu...

Did Intel forget the competition isn't Bulldozer anymore?

None of Intel's current chips have hardware mitigations against MDS, to the best of my knowledge. The next gen probably won't either. Hell, it's still making chips vulnerable to one of the original Spectre attacks...

The perils of using the same underlying arch for the past 10+ years without a replacement in the wings [that isn't yet another do-over of the same underlying design].

It seems like they thought reducing prices and increasing cores would be enough to kill AMD, so they could mark things back up next year. And they forgot to see if it worked before they marked everything back up.

4c/4t for £180? Christ... can you imagine the state of the market today if Ryzen turned into another Bulldozer?!
