So can you not just create a fake account and not even pay any attention to it?

Well you could, until bookface closes it for being a fake and/or inactive account.

Is it wrong that I have little sympathy. The writing was on the wall and shouted loud that there would be bad consequences from the choices Facebook were making linking oculus to Facebook accounts. Now the bad consequences have arrived when people should not have been buying it given the anti consumer stance by Facebook. This didn't sneak up on people after the fact. Facebook were clear they were ruining their platform.

"In order to use a piece of gaming equipment you must dox yourself" is the answer to the following question:

"How do you give Jack Thompson an erection?"

    I have to say, that's a question I don't think anyone's ever asked.

(Man, I haven't heard that name in ages.)

Just like no sensible person ever asked for a public index where you have to register your gaming "paraphernalia"...

There has to be a way to levy a big fat fine for doing this kind of stuff. Surely a government somewhere is is thinking, "Look at this pasty pr*ck sitting on a mountain of cash, thinking he can play OUR game."

I doubt it, the law has barely caught up with the idea of digital distribution so I don't think there is much Government can do...

However, I'd wager a bet at least in 'Murica those who do get their Quest 2 bricked by being banned from Facehorror would have solid ground for a class action.

Well, if it isn't mentioned at point of sale, I would wager it's not enforceable by UK law - they might be able to ask you to open an account and specify "online access/account required", but what's the "bot-rule"? Login every month? Post pictures of your firstborn in the bath? Have a minimum size friends list? Can you even play offline at all, or does your Wasteofspacebook have to be continually linked and live?

I reckon we'll see this reversed through public outcry. It's certainly now put me off and I was a dead cert for a purchase in the next month or so.

This is a good one though - kind of a grey area, methinks.

They ban inactive accounts, but my Mom has been trying to get them to do something about an identity theft account for years?
