If I wait 3-6 months, is there likely to be something that beats the RX 6900XT?

    like an RX 6999XT Turbo?

Unlikely. I think AMD are going to wait for next gen and probably up the CU count again to 96 or something, but not this generation. If you wait 6 months or so the most likely thing you are going to see is a price cut on the AMD gpu's. While Nvidia and Intel never seem to cut prices AMD tend to do so after 6 months, even if it is only $20-$50.

They might do a higher clocked version if Nvidia gives them reason to, but it's not normally AMD's style. They normally go all out straight away rather than hold back like Nvidia and Intel, but then again, the big guns largely do that out of complancency and forgetting what competition is, so even they might have to stop that for the next couple of generations.
