Hi all, Back in 2012 I build a PC with a mini-itx motherboard and an AMD 3870K Black Edition CPU. I stuck a Arctic Freezer Pro 13 on this and crammed it all into a BitFenix Prodigy case. A decade later the computer is going strong, however the AF Pro 13 now makes a very loud grunting noise relatively frequently, and I think its because of the small fan between the copper plate and the heatsink (between the heat pipes). I have tried oiling it but alas it seems determined to grunt. So I want to either buy a new, slimmer heatsink/fan for the processor or a new little tiny fan which wont grunt. The latter seems harder, but looking around finding information on a new heatsink which will work for the cpu is non-specific, and im not experienced enough to go for a new heatsink without someone telling me to buy it. Thus, does anybody know of a good, reasonably slimmer (such 9cm) heatsink I could buy (or scour ebay for) which will work for a AMD 3870K Black Edition FM1 CPU? Thanks, Bogo
That is about the deadest socket there is. I assume you mean this cooler yes? and the fan is kaput? https://www.arctic.de/en/Freezer-13/UCACO-FZ130-BL If so? measure it. Then get a fan and get creative with cable ties.
It's the pro version, which has a tiny fan top of the base plate @Bogomip - just remove/disconnect it, it will have little to no impact on performance. As long as the main fan is still fine then carry on cooling
I have the Pro version of this cooler going spare. If you need the fan or the whole hsf, let me know and it’s yours for the postage.
