Networks 3G/HSDPA Router/Mobile Internet to Lappy

i'm looking for the best deal on Mobile Networking, i was googling for some kind of Router which a SIM can be put into (GiffGaff!!) however most solutions seem to be £150+

What other solutions exist, and what is the price like?

tplink 3g router are pretty cheap, but do require a usb 3g modem

 

Get the 3 Mifi thing, though not from 3 of course as its locked but the Mifi Router can be plugged into your machine as used as a network card and wireless hotspot, use mine a lot its great. think its from huwaei

You can also use your mobile phone as a hotspot depending on what you have, Android 2.2 and up support this.

so, to summarize i would need a 3g usb modem, can you get ones which a sim can be put into?

Do you have an iPhone?

 

the ones that work only with a sim, are as has been seen by op already very expensive, hotspot on iphone works on iphone 4 only i think

mifi is made by huawei for 3, but i think other phone companies are starting to get them.

 

I have one of the 3 MIFI dongles, never had a single problem with it and the battery life is pretty good on it aswell.

 

If you have an Android phone with 2.2+, then you can just use your phone as a WiFi hotspot.

 

I use PDA.net on my iPhone 3GS, works a treat. Needs jailbreaking tho, and I think you need to have iOS 4.2.1 I think.

I use an old Vodafone 3G dongle plugged into a Zoom 4501 3G wireless-N router and top it up as needed. With the latest firmware, it supports loads of 3G dongles.

 

i don't own a 3G Modem...

 

You can buy a 3g dongle for £20 and a Zoom 4501 for £45. Certainly far cheaper than your original idea!

do you need a home network to use the 3G signal ? or just 1 laptop ?

if its just 1 laptop then all you need is a 3G dongle from any of the major phone providers. Be sure to check the terms though as they differ alot on usuage and price and contract length signal coverage etc.

alternatively buy a smart phone such as an android and turn it into wi-fi hotspot WOOOT

 

i intend to use a GiffGaff SIM: £10 per month for unlimited internet!, and yeah just my laptop

 

straight from giffgaff T&Cs. basically your not allowed to do what your wanting without breaking T&Cs. unlimited internet is limited to mobile internet ONLY
