    Oh Hai MSI P55 CD53!

Version 1.0 BIOS too - I know this is old but haven't got the latest from Taiwan yet haha.

The base clock is limited by CPU - anything over 220 it wouldn't boot. There's no VTT voltage either which means this is quite truly an amazing OC.

Word of warning: I haven't tested stability though, but the potential is looking good!

Does this make it a better overclocker than my GD65? WAAAAA :duh: :duh: :duh:

goddamn Bindi. So do I see a possibility for 10GHz+ at the next overclocking competition with LN2?

Aircooled you say? What heatsink were you using?

    Noctua NH-U12P w/ 1156 bracket + standard fan. Outside of the case, 50C idle, it'll load about 80C at a heavy 1.45V.

The layout on the CD53 is potentially ****ing stupid though: a clear CMOS jumper is in the middle of the board underneath the graphics card and MSI goes with fewer more expensive DrMOS phases (just 3!!) rather than using traditionally cheaper alternatives. I expect under load it won't sustain the 4.4GHz though because of vDroop, of which the BIOS has no compensator.

I've still got another 4 mobos to quickly push today before our OC article next week ^_^

either way thats a seriously impressive OC on air, what does the system feel like? i7 levels of performance?

If you can, push it hard. I doubt it will last cause of the vdroop, but I still wanna see/read the results. if this is possible on all P55's with it being able to be stable and handle load, I stick with my original post here.

    that's impressive.

but i don't think as impressive as my 3.8Ghz on Intel stock cooling :p

Theres a possibility of i5 being the new e8400 OC'ing wise, which is rather exciting :D

I can hold 4.6 in the BIOS no load on my setup, but how's it doing in windoze? (Mine will not boot over 4.)

BTW, don't count the DrMOS stuff out, that stuff is the shiznit.

Looks good though. It has a ways to go to chase me down for value...

4.4GHz boot, maybe 4.0Ghz stable? Maybe even 4.2GHz stable... if you didn't play with the voltages then the only real loss of life expentancy you'll see will come from the extra heat? So if you watercool the beast... it will run at 4.0GHz and still live for 3-5 years! - Evil little processor

Unfortunately I don't have time to install Windows and test it on 6 different motherboards, I'm just doing a general BIOS guide.

Lol bindi, you do the same things at the weekend as you do at work, I envy you :grr:

All day playing with Hardware and occasionally writing a review, I need a job like that :p

After two months of writing endless Lynnfield stuff, with more to come. I'm thoroughly bored.

4,4 on a 750 is great stuff man! I really would like to see if you can get into windows with that thing though. Is it possible that you have a very good sample?

I came to about 4320 MHz stable under load on my 870. That was naturally with turbo off, but HT was on, and it survived through 8 threads of Prime for over an hour! I even disabled all throttling and thermal management stuff, it just kept going at full speed all the time. I'm now in the process of setting up some profiles and see if it will effectively switch between them from windows.

reckon we may actually get a 5ghz overclock with the i5 750? probably water cooled...

wonder where they got the impression of a 5ghz i5 on air. hm lol
