This chip OCed to 4GHz with ease... but I can't bench it properly as my temps are horrible!!!

Stock coolers fail. Need a nice, beefy cooler now...

Id wait till you get a propper cooler those temps are pretty dangerous if idle.

Wasn't idle... just gave a quick blast of Intelburntest and killed it as soon as I saw it get to 85.
I've backed it off to 3GHz now until I get better cooling. I was just curious to see if the chip was capable of a 4GHz OC. It is, so I'm happy to wait until I get a decent cooler.

Even those IDLE temps are pretty high.

Of course... it's a 2.6GHz chip at 4GHz with a stock cooler :duh:

Just deciding on the best way to cool it now. ... except that I can't decide :) Water? Air? Hmmm...

IBT does something weird when stress testing, I bet you won't see those temps running something else for 100% CPU utilisation.

I noticed that myself when stressing the rig at stock speeds when I first built it. IBT managed to get the temps at least 10 degrees higher, and it doesn't even keep the cores at 100%.

I'd watercool imo. Then again, I'm not exactly unbiased... :worried:

Pookey, we all know you'll choose water. Just seeing if it'll hit 4 was enough to answer that one, let alone the old air/water one ;)

Water is expensive, but you get better temps

if you go for air I'd go TRUE and Noctua

Or worst case scenario you can just use a peltier TEC plate? :p

Heatsinks are very very good now and thus you have to invest quite alot in a water set up for it to be significantly better!

you can never go wrong with a TRUE :)

especially when they include a fan now.

lucky you, im stuck here with 3.9Ghz max, and only 3.4Ghz 24/7 :(

Yeah.. tempted to go water again.. My temps were so good with the last rig. I was sick to death of the size of the damned thing though... hence the Lian Li PC-A6010 this time. Water will be tricky in this case, that's for sure.

If I do go water, it won't be a massive triple rad monster job this time... discreet will be the watchword.

I'm wondering whether a single rad, 5/8ths install will be enough. I'll probably not bother with GPU blocks either.

I'll think on it a while.
