My msi k8n neo2 plat will only display 3.4 gigs in BIOS - and apparantly its an NForce chipset problme , on ALL NF (1>4) chipsets!! why 4 gig? well its about £220 now - alot less than just 2 years ago!! and why? well i do video work so want lots of ram Via chipsets will run all 4 gigs but at 100mhz!! damn nvidia , why couldn`t they get it right!
2 x gigaram pc 3500 and 2 x matrix pc3200 sticks all running at 10,3,3,3 200 its a chipset problem , as it only shows up as 3.4 gig in bios , yet 2 sticks on there own show up as 2 gig properly
If you put each stick in on its own, does it come up as 1 gig each time? If so, memtest them all seperately, so you can rule out memory faults.
I remember reading about this somewhere before. Ain't much you can do. Either: Get a non-nvidia mobo, or only use 3 sticks, or just deal with the lost 600megs. Are you even filling up the 3.4? Hell are you even filling 1? if not, then dont worry about it.
yes im filling 3.4 - i would fill 4 and more large video`s being edited and yes all sticks work properly
Sell your Voodoo 5 and use the $$$$ to get a nice board that will do 4gb+, dual xeons, and windows 2003 (it supports up to a tb) http://tyan.com/products/html/thunderi7520.html
Probably because it's not an nvidia problem with NF3 and 4. If all your sticks are double banked then the AMD cpu may have a problem addressing the final bank or so?? Or get an Intel board - that should take 4gig sticks, like froggy said - server boards definately will.
4 x 512 sticks works perfectly fine - and ballistix (which i have had) works well @ 5,2,2,2 2T (2T because it is double sided - 1T works with 4 x 512 of single sided ram) the problem is with the chipset not recognising the full amount of ram - 600 meg is being swalloed somewhere. Also , with the Via KT800 and KT890 it WILL use all 4 gig - but throttles the ram back to a much slower speed.
yes its the laest one - issue also effects gigabyte boards , dfi boards , asus boards etc etc so its a chipset problem.
Why is that so fantastic? I mean, it's a ghetto looking card, but why is it better than any of the other of today's beasty cards?
The card is ahead of its time. Sure its 5 years old, but it was a card that never got released. There was a hand full of engineering samples handed out before the company, 3dfx, went bankrupt. The card had 128mb when all other cards had 32. Also the card had 4 GPUs and needed so much power that it had a external power adapter. Its a sweet card, and they occaisionly pop up on ebay and sell for over $1000. Here is a recent article about the card. http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/divers/v5-6000/v56kgb-1.htm
