I'm currently in NYC and I've noticed my camera seems to have an autofocus problem and I'm having to do all my shots manually when I would like to use the autofocus sometimes! I've tried 3 different lens (10-20mm, 18-200mm and 70-300mm), and all have the same problem so its the camera. The camera will focus to both extremes before settling on something that is slightly out of focus. 5 times out of ten the camera can focus on something in the dsitance but 9 times out of 10 it cannot focus something a few feet away. I've tried in very bright light and the problem still exists. Any suggestions? It pouring with rain here and tonight should be a good opportunity to take some nice shots with the lights and reflections.
I'd guess at dust on one of the AF sensors. Could you pop into a local camera shop for a while-you-wait clean or give it a go with the rocket blower?
I did wonder if it was dust but gave it as much cleaning with a blower and cloth as I could but it hasn't made a difference. Not sure if I have time to take it to a shop, off on a cruise in the morning! Any more suggestions would be good. If I don't reply it's because I'm on the QM2 and the Internet is a rip off
Ensure there is no crap stuck in the body/lens contacts. But like Xen0phobiak said, could be something on the AF sensor. If I recall its through the mirror/eyepiece assembly, someone correct me if Im wrong. Also try to force the camera to use only one of the AF points to achieve focus (like the center one, try them all for good measure too). Hopefully that helps. If not I would have it looked at, something more serious (unfortunately).
