    Hi all,

I have got a AMD 2400+ running at stock level, and it's kicking out on average 45 degress +. This to me seems a little hot. The main reason being, my case isn't modded in anyway. The only fan in there is on the CPU. Would you advise a few blow holes here and there to help cool the ship, or does the temp appear to be okay?

Griffo this is not hot for a athlong they tend to run at high temps anyway but with some good cooling you could get them down and also some artic silver 5 but with the HSF you have thoose temps sound fine

Hmmm seems a little hot for a 2400 to me, I may invest in some fans for my case. As gaming tends to start cooking the inside, and I dont want a deep-fat fried CPU thanks! :D

45c isn't too bad considering I've had a 2500+ Barton up to 68c whilst ingame. That frightened me so I got a decent heatsink and it's sat at around 36c now whilst ingame. If 45c is where the temperature tops out, I shouldn't worry too much, if at all.

If it's idling at 45c and rises above that, I'd think about putting in at least two 80mm fans. One at the front of the case breathing cool air in and one at the back exhaling air out.

There are a few schools of thought about fan placement, although it's different with each case.

I've got a 2400+ running stock in my box, and it idles at between 48-50C and peaks at about 53-55C under load (after about six hours of Planetside). This is in a Koolance water cooling system (which I still haven't got round to cleaning out and replumbing), so I don't really think yours is running hot.

I woudn't worry about it too much unless you start getting temperatures in the 65-70C range TBH.

If you want to shove in some case fans, then go for it, as long as you can cope with the noise increase, and either filter the fans or clean out the system on a semi regular basis.

All this is only IMO, of course. :D

If you couldn't find out what temp it was you wouldn't be worrying.

Temp sensors are very inaccurate. You will no when your computers running too hot when it starts being unstable.

If it's completely stable at the moment why not save you ears the extra noise.

My old XP1800+ used to sit around 70'C a lot of the time and after moving house the heatsink had slipped. I only noticed after i strtaed getting lock uups and when i check the CPU temp it was at 98'C! :eeek:

Thats was over 18 months ago now and its still going strong without any problems. :D

    - Looks over at MBM
    - Sees 45C
    - Looks over at CPUZ
    - Sees 2400@2350 (1.75v)
    - Looks over at MBM again
    - Sees 100% Cpu load

    You have no problems :thumb:

you won't kill an AMD at that sort of temperature ;)

I ran 50'C+ on my barton 2500+ at 2450 air cooled, it's still alive today ;)
