http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=26398 http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gts-450-review-roundup/ Looks quite fail imo, slower than 5770, which means its still slower than one my 260 GTXs... needs to be priced aggressively to compete with 768MB 460 GTX.
They were priced exactly the same as the 5750 when the were on Newegg, they've since been removed.. Same exact performance as the 5750 + higher temps + higher consumption. Price needs to drop to $100 to convince me to buy it over the 5750.
I can really see ATi releasing at 6850 at £150 which is 10-20% faster than the 5850, which will really piss all over nVidia's party.
so which card should I replace my ageing 9800gx2 with... clearly not one of these... nor even a 460.... this gen is so lame.
£150? You must be dreaming! I'd expect £200-220. I'm disappointed. I thought Nvidia had sorted things out with the release of the 460 but it seems they're taking a step backwards. Still, the card will probably go down to £80-90 after a while. The 460 and 5750/5770 render this card obsolete at the moment. Oh, and I'd like to know about SLI performance .
460 is not an upgrade over the 9800gx2 if anything its slower. 6850 will cost id bet £200 + and id guess closer to £250 6870 will be over £300 would love 6850 at £150 ( cf them for £300 txs lol )
@Ph4ZeD isnt the 9800gx2 == 2x gtx250's? I was under the impression that where sli supported it would be around a gtx 280 in performance - similar to a 460... http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...h-quality/Battlefield-Bad-Company-2,2374.html for instance. on the normalised figures http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...rts-high-quality/Percent-normalized,2394.html std 460 is below 9800gx2 similarly http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...uality/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-Totals,2393.html whilst the single 260 gets nowhere close of course with overclocking 460 would improve it (see the OC editions) but I would rather have a bigger jump in performance for the cash... I'd probably jump at a 2x460 for instance (as I could go 2x2x460 at a later date) but as 4x 460 is not there there is no upgrade path from 2x460 at present (and then my mobo is probably only 8x8)
Gainward GTX460 GL Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 (2x512 MB) acording to toms hardware they are nearly identical performance wise. very few sites have reviewed the 460 vs the 9800gx2. maybe you would pay £180 ish for the 1gb card for the same performance i dout i would
is it possible that Ph4ZeD's gx2 was only running as a GX? how else would it have failed to outperform the single 260....
He's got one thing right, the 6850 isn't going to come out at £150, it will be £200+ and probably on the sharp end of £250. It's likely to be faster than the 5850 which currently retails (I only checked Scan but I think they're competitive) at £200-£220 for the standard version, £250+ for OC'd versions. Even if the manufacturing process has become cheaper, the 6850 is not going to have outside competition so ATI can set their own price. It just won't be 25+% cheaper than the current, inferior version.
The 9800GX2 might be faster in benchmarks but i know for a fact it preformed terrible in games that were heavily optimized for it.
the gx2 is basically 2 (old big style) 250's in sli isn't it? so if the drivers are up to date then your easy out performing a single 260... even min's !!! I agree if buying now at same price a 460 is probably a better deal (it'd give you an upgrade path with sli) - but if you have a 9800x2 or indeed a 275+ card - then no single card on the market would make you swap it out which is a shame a 480 at 200 would do it... perhaps SI will do it... but at present there is no reason to upgrade. this gen is not so exiting as the web makes out except for pete with his 3xSLI Zotac GTX480 swoon! how are the min's bet they suck with sli ;-)
Well, the 9800GX2 is essentially two 8800GTs in SLI whereas the 250 GTS is roughly the equivalent of a 8800GTX, so it's a bit worse. Here's a Guru3D comparison. Unfortunately it doesn't show minimums but is does show the 260 beat's the GX2 at most resolutions in Crysis (I acknowledge your comparisons from Tom's Hardware though). Depends on personal preference, but yeah, there's no real need to upgrade for the 'average' Steam user. Ha Ha! They are pretty nice
For the record my ASUS GTS 450 TOP his 1GHz/2G/4.2G on air, but it only makes it 10-15% faster than stock. GTX460 768MB is about ~40% faster, so still better. Also, some of you need to use more tact in your posts when replying to other people's opinions.
