I currently have a EVGA GTX460 and im thinking of getting another and running SLI, just as a cheap upgrade as Im finally getting a 1080p monitor. My question is if I opted for the more powerful 560 would they both work well in SLI or do you need matching GPU's? Im sure this has been asked before but I cant seem to find the thread, thanks in advance.

460's in SLI are still so very powerful, there's no pint buying 2 560's instead of 1 460.
    So SLI the 460's. :D

    You can't SLI a 560 and a 460. You'll need either another 460 (same amount of RAM) or 2 560's.

Bit like wanting to fit a truck engine into a mini cooper...you need to have parts that are of similar spec, you can get a 560 and then later opt for a cheaper 560 when the prices come down if you wanted..that is what i did with the 460s, waited till they came down and got the same model £60 cheaper than when i first bought it.

I'd save that money and just buy a 580 and sell the 460 you have.
Sli configurations are one of the technologies that just don't enhance much. Like raid 0.
The problems you'll get out way the good.

Excuse me? I wasn't starting anything. I was only stating my own personal experience using SLI. If you're going to flame people in this forum F*** off because it isn't pleasant or appreciated.

I only meant that the last time i used a multi-gpu technology aka SLI. It wouldn't work properly, no matter what i did, drivers, powerful psu, overclocking, underclocking, over and undervolting.

I just got micro-stutters, some games wouldn't even start, and some would crash whenever they felt like it. It was a nightmare, i ended up just selling them both and got a more powerful card, solved everything. Never had to mess around with configurations with single gpus either.

Could you elaborate on 'don't enhance much' ?

I agree that having a SLI or Crossfire setup can and does create issues within a build.
They don't have to be problems necessarily, with enough pre thought and pre planning.

Depending on requirements and budget, multiple GPUs can be the more sensible upgrade.

GTX 460 SLI kicks 2560x1600 ass, it's that good! I get near enough 100% scaling in the games I play, which is nice!

I'm not starting trouble but don't tell people to dismiss sli or raid0 when you have had problems yourself. Didn't mean to sound off earlier, I appologise but most people who have sli,d and raid0 have been more than happy. And I think most of the people on these forums have experienced these with no problems.
