    Hey,

on Scan atm there is a MixIt which has a fairly nice build on it (minus Graphics) that I'm tempted to get.

Before you say wait for SandyBridge, I'm going to need the PC at the start of January for work. I plan to get this build as a sort of stop-gap and then transfer HDD, Ram etc across probably next September.

I was hoping it would be enough to power a 5850, but not sure. There's no overclocking on it, and I don't think I will to start with.

    Any thoughts?

With the usual "if it's a good quality power supply", you will have no problems powering that build with a 460W power supply :)

Depends what you are going to do with the rig and what GPU you will put it in. One review of that PSU (assuming it is the 460w) stated that it was simply a reabelled Elite 400w (link: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-460-W-Power-Supply-Review/1005/9) and only delivered 420w - at least it didn't blow up.

If that deal is still around tomorrow, phone Scan and see if you can get the same setup with a 430W Seasonic S12II-430 PSU (£46.99 on the same Today Only page) instead. It may cost you slightly more but it will be much better, especially if you are going to run something like a GTX460 or a 5850 in it.

If you are thinking of a more powerful GPU ala GTX570, think about getting a 620W Seasonic S12II-620 instead.

Right, phoned Scan and was told that as case and PSU are sold as a bundle normally, wouldn't be able to upgrade it.

Therefore, am proposing to buy this-

    MSI ATi Radeon 5850 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-103-MS

    Coolermaster GX 550W - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-201-CM

    Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-104-SA
    BenQ G2222HDL - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-104-SA
(saw it in another post and was deemed usable)

    Intel i3 540 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...hz-4mb-cache-73w-integrated-gpu-733mhz-retail

    Corsair Memory - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-...600)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-xmp-165v

    MSI P55-GD65 Mobo - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-p55-gd65-intel-p55-motherboard-lga1156

    Antec 300 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/antec-300-three-hundred-black-midi-tower-ultimate-gaming-case-w-o-psu

    Will this work?

I know now is not ideal for buying, but needs must unfortunately.

It will work but I have a couple of comments...

The monitor is about a tenner cheaper @ Aria.

For the same price as the Cooler Master PSU you can get a Seasonic 430w like I posted previously - it will be all you need, is quieter and much better quality. If you are thinking of dual graphics cards in future, then an Antec TruePower New 650w is a better bet @ £58.

Has anyone had any experience of deleting orders from Scan? Unfortunately, after placing the first order had a phonecall from the bank saying that it had been cancelled due to Fraud (apparently it was different to my normal sort of purchasing).

I was then told to repeat the order, which I did. I have now got two sets of order confirmations, and due to it being Christmas Eve, can't phone them.

I've sent an email but they currently say that delivery will be the 27th (day after boxing day) and so I doubt that I'll actually be able to contact them in time.

Annoyingly, this now means I'll miss the 5850 offer from Overclockers. Yay.

And I thought this was meant to be fun.

@Fingers: Thanks for the advice through the thread, went with the Antec which came up on Today Only, and am now getting the monitor through Aria (when I get the money back from Scan).

With any luck, Scan will spot it and only send one. However, if you do somehow get two orders, under the distance selling regulations you can return one within 7 days and get your money back. Whilst it may take a few days to sort out, I don't think you are at risk of losing money (fingers crossed).

Well, as an update, Scan were brilliant, and have now got the Desktop part with the screen somewhere in the post from Aria.

I've got a copy of Windows7 Professional that I've downloaded from Software4Students, anyone know how to transfer it from one PC with Xp on to the new one? Pendrive?

    Apart from that, I'm buzzing!

    Cool.

Isn't your Software4Students download an ISO file? If so, you need to burn it to a DVD then install from the DVD on the new rig.
