    Ello,

Ive been digging through the forums here to decide on a new system, since the i7 systems are looking quite shiney.

I have most of the parts I want, or belive to be good the last one if the GPU and im torn...

Go for a 4870 - As I have one now, but will be selling in the old system. Its a good card and no issues with it.

Or hit up a 4870 X2 - Specs look nice and reviews seem good for it.

Or go for the new boy 4890 - A few mates have them and lov em to bits,

So after some help or pointers or just general "go for this one"

    Cheers in advance

    Paul

The 5870 is rumored to be out really soon so I'd wait a bit and see.

4870x2 is the best of what you have listed.

+1 at Ending Credits, it should only be a few months before the 5000 series of ATi cards comes out, though if you must have GFX now, go for the 4870X2, I've seen them at £250

But am getting a pair of new monitors Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" so will be at 1680x1050

At those resolutions, the 4870 is slight overkill, the 4890 is heavy overkill, 4870X2 is even more overkill.

Your choice should be between the 4870, GTX260 and maybe the 4770 and possibly some lower end cards, which I don't know too much about.

A core i7 driven system with GTX260 or 4870, paired with a 1680x1050 monitor will give you very good framerates in virtually all games with most of the details at max.

if your going to upgrade you monitor to 1680x1050 then go for the 4890 as it's very good value for money. you can get one from scan at very cheap prices like this one.
