Which has better performance for price.

    I can get a 4890 for £70, or a 4870 512Mb for £55. Which to choose and why.

    Might help:
    Resolution - 1920x1080.
    Screen - 32"

    Thanks

If you take an average per £ the 4850, but for 1080p gaming you'd definitely want to opt for the 4890

Oops, meant 4870 if that makes a difference.

I dont need super fps. Just something to handle MW2 online until kepler, cos after downgrading from a GTX 460, my integrated 4290 is making me cry

For 1080p take the 1GB card. 512mb is simply not enough any more.

(This is ignoring the face that the HD4890 is faster than the HD4870 anyway).

If you could though I would try to find a HD5770. Not only do you get very similar performance to the HD4890 you also get much lower power consumption and also a quieter card (I recall the HD48xx models didn't have the quietest coolers).

The 5770 is more expensive and these charts imply the 4890 is quite a bit faster :/

I still think the 4890 is worth the extra £15. Even if you sold it in 6 months time, you'd lose what, £5 on that price?

The real world performance difference between the HD5770 (running the latest drivers) and the HD4890 will be relatively small.

I have seen HD5770's go for around £80 hence why I would reccomend it.

Ok, but I am trying to spend as little as possible. My budget was £50.

    Fair enough :)

Out of those two cards though definately get the one with 1GB of memory.

4890, no question. For an extra $15, I'd say it's well worth it.

    £55 for a 512mb 4870 is steep IMO!!

seen a palit dual fan 512mb 4870 go for £35 on aria forums last week!

heck, i bought my XFX 1gb 4870 3 months ago brand new from scan for £49 and was gonna sell it for £47 a few weeks back. seen 1gb 4870's go for £50 so that is what i would recommend :thumb:

u can then use the £15-20 saved to buy an AC accelero twin turbo pro GPU cooler, coz the stock cooler is loud and crap :D
