And later we'll be testing some new stuff from TT and GSkill (1800 CAS8)

Those G.Skill Modules are big - could you even get 4 in a board?

Yeah, those modules are almost *too* big. You could do much more in less space with watercooled ram. :wallbash:

No, basically, but you can unscrew them and remove the heatpipes. GSkill's PI stuff you can though - it's only Thermaltake heatsinks that limit them.

Not only that they don't fit in all boards because sometimes the graphics slot is too close to the memory slots, or the CPU socket is too close to the inner ram slot :duh:

Aye ;) I've been testing all week on and off and really having no luck with 790i until today, and I've also ordered a new X48 board too.

Soon. Q4 2008. So anywhere between October and December, but most likely in November.

We've got X58 in house already and have had it for about 3 weeks. Still waiting for a CPU to plug into it though... :(

man, that Gskill stuff looks absolutely fabtabucake!

I'm seeing opportunities to mod it to a "mirror" so it has those cooling flowers on both ends and you could drop in 4 modules. Compatible? That's what the :dremel: is for!

Would have thought you could swap the cooler for every other stick so the heatsink and fan bit is at the other end of the module, should be able to get 4 in then.

    YES!

That is a great idea - and you can easily remove the heatpipe by undoing the screws at the top with a torx head screwdriver.

    Good call chaps! :thumb:

We'll be doing DDR3 X48 and 790i versus X58 comparisons when the time comes.. ;)

    lol, that's what i meant aswell. :D

It even looks as though somebody at GSkill was thinking the same thing, judging from the easyly accessible screws. Bindi, are youallowed to open these things up to see the innards of that cooling system? It might be as simple as unscrew - flip pipe&cooler - rescrew to adapt these things if my guess is correct.

    very nice platform.

makes me wonder.... how are you guys running the operation? manufacturers lend you the stuff, you test it, and write a review? then how are you getting your pay? via advertisements?
the time consuming tasks like this won't come cheap because of the high labour costs here in UK
