Hey everyone, Currently I'm using 2 22" 1920x1050 monitors. My main usage is programming so quite often I would have my IDE, word documents, multiple browser windows with video and other useful sources and an IM client or two under all that. Currently I'm finding I could use a bit more space and was wondering would selling both monitors and going for a single 4k monitor ~28-30" be better for my usage? The extra pixels in theory give me 2x more space than the dual monitor set up but does it actually work like that? What is the better option multiple monitors or a single 4k monitor?
Ive found over the last ~8 years of using dual monitors that I'm an awful lot more productive with two screens than with one larger one.. Just remember, twice the pixels doesn't mean you can have whatever windows you have open at half the size you used to have them at.
I recently bought an Asus PB258Q monitor. It is a 25" with a resolution of 2560x1440. https://www.asus.com/Monitors/PB258Q/ I'm very happy with it, great quality and nice foot. You could still add a small USB self powered monitor for email inbox and documentation reading. Been using dual monitor for like 10 years at work and I find it tiring and unatural to have to look of you right or you left depending on wich screen you use. If you want wider screen, what about a 21:9 monitor ? I think this could be a good compromise.
We use dual 24" monitor in work and coming home to 22" takes a few mins to adjust to. Even in work I tend to full screen the VM where we code and have browser, email, IM open native on the other monitor. Even then I'm wishing I had a third monitor for the stuff on the VM as it's like looking at windows through windows. In both cases I use a tablet and onenote for note taking instead of paper. If debugging I have thrown movies and IM on the laptop and most of home email is on my phone. I would only pull it up on the computer if there where attachments or its a very long reply. It's something I've gotten use to alt+tabbing between. I like the idea of a small USB monitor if needed.
