Been using 4k 40" for a bit now, at 3 to 4 foot distance it's perfect for pc gaming, I also set scaling to 150% in win 10, makes things easier to see & a single 980 Ti is good enough, only the most demanding games need toning down a tiny bit to run optimal, most games run maxed at 60FPS plus you don't need AA at 2160p.

980 Ti has hdmi 2.0 & my samsung 4k tv has 4 hdmi 2.0 ports, using a hdmi 2.0 cable I bought from Lindy, I had an odd flickering problem running 4k 60hz default settings but since found settings in the tv menu that solved it & responsiveness is much better now, I'd say it's just as good as a decent monitor.

Smart TV netflix & amazon prime 4k content is like DSLR photos in motion, awesome detail plus it lets me plug in my ps4 & newly acquired Wii U.

Link to multiple places to buy from, cheapest is £499.

I agree with bindi about that 27" 1440p IPS 165hz gsync monitor being the best gaming monitor but man it's expensive, I'm happy enough with the 40" UHDTV. :D

It will but you will have to lower settings on some games.

I have a Fury X with a 5820k and although I haven't been gaming much lately (been very disappointed with recent games) it does a good enough job. Witcher 3 is a mixture of high and medium settings and looks better than ultra @ 1080p IMO.

I used to run Titan Black SLI and the Fury X is so much better on so many levels.

So would this Philips monitor be better choice, or JU6400 Samsung tv?

I don't know how good the Philips one is but know it uses display port for 2160p 60hz whereas the Samsung uses HDMI 2.0 & is really nice & responsive after changing some settings in the TV menu, no more flickering or mouse cursor lag so no longer looking at other screens with being happy with it, more options on the Samsung, plain monitor for the Philips.

    Cable I'm using.

Looks cool, thanks for your point of view.
I wish display port cables be so slim like this hdmi.

Certainly ! I had a windfall last year and so I decided to build a 4k ready rig. It cost me over three grand and was THE biggest waste of money I have ever seen in my entire life.

Thankfully I managed to sell both of the Titan Black for £550 and I found a second hand (and well vetted for coil whine/pump noise etc)Fury X for £450.

In nearly everything the Fury X performs better and it's so much easier to live with !

One note to OP. If you are going Nvidia then you want to try and find a G-sync monitor. I was initially running two Titan Black so I bought a Acer XB280HK which is a 4k G-sync monitor. You really need G-sync at 4k IMO. Well, that or Freesync if you are running AMD because frame drops can be enormous and very apparent and it just smooths over the edges when things get choppy (and they will, no matter what GPU set up you run).

The only thing I miss about my Titan Blacks is G-Sync. I am kicking myself for doing that really.

I will wait it out now until decent 4k screens with Freesync come along at a decent price. It sucks because I know my monitor can support it (due to the type of DP it uses) but AMD will obviously not support a monitor running a G-sync module.

Harumph (please some one write a hack haha).

This is what I would like

    34"
    21:9
    3440*1440
    IPS
    GSync

But sadly they are hugely expensive and I'd rather spend the money on VR.

From the all reviews I read, it looks like 4K can be run with single 980Ti - especially my overclocked Palit Super Jetstream. All games run above 35fps, so it's enough for me to be honest.
If it starts to stutter/screen cut, I will use vsync option and eventualy lower settings a bit to get the fps back up.
Then next year we should see new nvidia cards, which should be at least 50% faster than 980Ti.

It won't be until the next gen that we see a real 4k card.

Does it work only with MSI cards or any?

34" is a LOT of TFT, which is why they're expensive. It's actually size and materials (especially IGZO!) not so much resolution that's the key. And GSync is +$x00 thankyouverymuch

If only there was an upgrade we could put on an UHDTV for GSync.

Ah, you went for the Philips, may as well if it's purely for PC use. :D

Yeah, PC only. I love Samsung TVs, but I thought that I won't be using it as TV, so went with this one.

I can't wait to play Elite, Witcher 3, Far Cry3 and MGS V tomorrow night!
    No sleep for me tomorrow!

Yeah - I'm certainly not complaining about the price.... just wishing it wasn't so.

Courier delivered it this morning to my neighbor - I will be playing hard tonight!

My desk is 50x105cm, so very small. I will be hanging it over the desk but still need to get bigger desk.
This is Ikea desk, so will get 60x120cm table top and swap it with the small one.
This way I will gain space for my Soundsticks3 and PC will sit on the right of the monitor.

    Happy days!
