hey people, i own a set of sennheiser 595's and and X fi sound card and with ccsd (virtual surround sound) it is very good but i am now wondering is it worth getting a "gaming" headset with proper 5.1 surround sound?

i need your thoughts and if the answer is "yes its worth getting some" then my question is which is the "best"

    cheers

Well if you do I recommend The medusa ones. They are great little headphones with a mic.

    Check them out.

Creative's HQ-2300D Dolby headphones are worth considering

If you're getting a "gaming" headset, you're probably going to want one with a microphone. I'd recommend Medusa, as well.

right that sounds good, but also i have an amp on my desk, so my sound card (xfi) is connected to the amp via a 3.5mm jack to the left and right (red, white) socket.

then i plug my headphones into the amp's "stereo jack". 6.something inch.

i have converters so thats not an issue. my concern is that my amp will become obsolete and not needed.

so my question is then, can i connect those 5.1 headphones to it? (the medusa)

oh and what about the sennheiser pc161 ?

what!? you have a pair of senn 595s and you want a GAMING HEADSET?

you don't know how good you've got it :( - any headset will be a horrible waste of money.

good quality stereo headset >>>>>> gaming headset.

    yeah senn 595's lol

they are cracking. just thought virtual surround wont beat a 5.1 headset. but thinking about it , i think you're right.

i am going to buy the PXC350 Noise Cancelling senns. cant find anywhere that has them though

The Home Edition of the Medusa headset comes with its own external amp that can connect to your current one, though I suggest just using the Medusa unit as it also has additional output connections for more devices. Another choice is the ProGamer Edition, which does not come with the external amp. Instead, it is powered by current provided by a sixth, USB connector.

Speedlink Medusa Home Edition comes with an external amp (above).

**edit: I hit "preview" instead of "submit" before going to a meeting. If you've already made up your mind, disregard this. BTW, look into Grado units of you are a heavy-duty audiophile.

I thought you wanted a gaming headset
You must be a serious 'audiophile' if you're happy to pay that sorta price for headphones :eeek:

Are you sure they're available in the UK yet?
At £230 (including FREE delivery) a set... I very much doubt they're out of stock everywhere, because they're selling as fast as they can get 'em in!?
Which might/would suggest they haven't been released here yet?

I've thought about getting an X-fi for the virtual surround sound, is it really worth it? How good does it really sound?

I bought some Medusas for surround headphone gaming, but I used them twice (2nd time just because) then they sat on a shelf and I went back to my Grados permanently.

I've got the Medusa 5.1 headset. The sound is ok, but I find them heavy and uncomfortable with prolonged use. If I could choose again, I'd happily forgo the limited (imho) surround sound of the Medusa for something lighter and more comfortable in plain old stereo.

    Pie_uk, I haven't tried any other 5.1s so I can't recommend any.
