I thought I would treat myself to some 5.1 surround sound speakers for my PC. I want them mainly for gaming but I also listen to a lot of music. My budget is about £50 and so I've narrowed it down to either the Logitech X-530 or the Logitech X-530. I've read many reviews saying they're both very good for the price but I can't see much difference between the two apart from the X-540 has the remote; which, incidentally, I am not too fussed about as I have the Logitech G-15 Keyboard with the media keys/volume control but obviously not the bass control so on reflection, I suppose the remote control would be a nice edition. OR... Do I got for something completely different, ie. the cheap option (which is Creative) and buy a soundcard with it. Such as the Creative Inspire T6100 leaving me about £20 to pick up some kind of sound card. I know the cheap option is never wise and that the Asus Xonar or Auzentech Prelude are the way to go but out of my price range. Any help will be appreciated but I'm really looking at buying the X-540's.
if you have on board sound thats good enough unless your absolutely devastated that it lowers your FPS by like 1-2. i have the first logitech ones, their alright but i would opt for the second ones, they have a seperate controller for sound, which means you can put it where you need it, next to your keyboard, mouse or if you have enough dexterity you can control it with your foot
At this price bracket, I would be wary. No doubt, the X-540 (newer, and the one you should go for) is pretty nice, but the Z-4s will deliver deeper bass, and probably a bit more clarity. It is up to you to prioritize surround sound or sound quality.
cheers guys, I've never really been in-the-know with sound stuff for PC's and never had anything bar onboard sound and 2.0. I'm not bothered about a soundcard and now can't wait to order the X-540's. What are the Z-4s though Lamboman?
The Logitech Z-4s are 2.1s. 80W might not sound like much, but the subwoofer in particular makes the whole system great value for money.
I have the T6100, five minutes after buying them I was flogging them to my sister. I have not owned any Logitech speakers but I hear they are decent. I have a decent sound card and would not recommend the T6100's, they are unequal in sound quality and output lots of bass leaving vocals very drowned.
I have the 540's, I like them. lots of bass but there is one thing that I hate about the sub. the speaker has nothing covering it. it's on the bottom of the sub and there is no grill over it, so watch out you dont put a thumb though it like i almost have a few times when you pick it up. other than that I have nothing to complain about.
Hmm, you mean X-530 and X-540? Also, lambo is right about the Z-4s. I have a pair, and they do sound excellent [but nothing next to my Z-5500s in the living room]. If you absolutely want 5.1s, I think the 540s are the better choice but if you're just looking for good sound you might consider going with a higher-quality 2.1 set.
oh my god, these are amazing. I know I have made a jump from 2 speakers from my monitor to £50 odd surround sound but this is amazing, the bass is soo good. I recommend these to anyone with a spare £50, I am in awe.
hehe the jump from built-in/cheapo £5 speakers to a decent 2.1 set or 5.1 is always impressive! The bass on my set still impresses me to this day
