Damn I really hate it when its a 5 week month, payday is always that little bit further away. Is there any particular reason why some companies pay you on the last thursday of the month instead of just paying us every 4 weeks?
Well, in Europe you usually get paid per month, not per week. And then you get your salary sometime between 6th and 15th day of next month.
My partner works shifts so she gets paid every 4 weeks as it's easier for the company's finance. However in reality it's a bit of a nightmare because bills come out every month. This means that payday only coincides with billday every 10 months, so we have to work everything out in advance. In that respect having payday at the end of every month makes more sense.
Are you referring to this month? I only see four weeks proper in September. You can't really count the 1st/2nd, as they are two working days compared to the full 5.
I've been paid weekly, four weekly and montly. Whilst I was sometimes (read every month) flat out broke in the days before payday, at least everything got paid. Four weekly is an absolute nightmare and if you're perpetually poor like me it's very difficult to keep upto date with all your direct debits and stuff... I mean I don't have any debt these days but you still have gas/elec/counciltax/phone/broadband/water rates and rent. That's a lot of stuff to cover if they're all due a few days before you get paid!
Well that's his point. He gets paid on the last thursday of every month. There are 5 thursdays in september, so it is 5 weeks since he last got paid. It's annoying but it happens to a lot of people. Might be an idea to plan for this in future....seeing as it happens fairly frequently! I personally think being paid on the 1st or last day of every month is easier to work with but it varies from company to company. Mine pays out on the 1st, for example, but my previous was the last friday of every month.
Yea thats exactly it, I've got money budgeted for it but just means I cant save as much as I'd like. This month. That is a fair point about getting paid every 4 weeks means you dont always get paid when bills all come out.
I get paid on or around the 24th every month in my new job. In my last job where I worked at a school I had to painfully wait till the last day every month. I don't know if there is much difference in dates, I haven't looked, but it seems to come quicker in the job I'm in now
Around here, Payday is normally between the 20th and the 28th of the Month somewhere. I have been paid on "the last working day of the month" before..and that BLOWS! Especially since you then have things like May, where half the month (around here) consists of holidays. That means you get paid WAY early. And then the next month has a Thursday on the 30th, meaning month-end is RIIIIGHT at the end of 6-7 weeks.
Feel your pain, the only advantage is you get paid for the extra few weeks which means you get a nice paycheque.
I'd be happy enough to get paid every 5 weeks, although I can see how it is frustrating for you - in reality though, you still get paid more often than people who have to invoice people for their services. I might send out 5 invoices this week, get paid for two of them next week, paid for another the week after that, and get paid for the last two in six months time. True story. Especially businesses... invoices have a habit of getting "misplaced" it seems. That's why I like working with a high number of residential customers rather than a small number of large business customers, because 9 times out of 10, a residential customer will pay you perfectly on time.
Unfortunately business invoicing often gets stuck in masses of accounting tape, the company I work for atm only really pays invoices by the 15th of the following month, which is also payday. Being in the middle of the month it's quite decent - you have to account for how much your bills are at the 1st (ish), but you've got plenty of time to work it out.
