A Pakistani politician has defended a decision to bury five women alive because they wanted to choose their own husbands:

Pakistan keeping it as classy as ever. :sigh:

and yet we bitch and moan 2 times a week because it's raining outside... We are so lucky to be living where we are

How can someone not see killing as a bad thing is beyond me. Who gives a crap if it's tradition or not, what did they ever do to deserve this ? They tried to make a choice ?

    wow

They're called honor killings. Basically, if you bring shame to the family, you'll be killed. Any number of things can motivate a family to conduct an honor killing, the vast majority of which are not condemned in the least by Western world.
    They're extremely common.

That is simply disgusting, and rather sickening as well. And think how much of this crap remains unreported.

A few days without Musharraf and with that Zardari b*stard and the country's already going down the toilet...

To be fair, it was going down the toilet before Musharraf stepped down.

lol, I know. But I'm rather biased :p

At least, IMO, he was against these extremist dogs, and at some point, might have made an effort to condemn it. Under Zardari, it'll just be pure chaos and everyone will do what they want...

I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of this in the near future...

Well I suppose, at least the Pakistani parliament was stunned by Zehri's viewpoint and protested and condemned the news.

This shows us that the Pakistani people remain medieval and barbaric in their attitude, in certain regions. But the way it is portrayed in the news does encourage the viewpoint that the whole of Pakistan is like this and their government is supportive of acts like this, which I am sure is not the case. It is hardly the time to jump to fantastic conclusions and sent the troops in. Musharraf did make a concientious effort to fight the Taliban...

Things like this are happening throughout Asia and in countries like Iraq, China and the African nations, and indeed a few hundred years ago, happened closer to home as well.

The fool Zardari would do well to make an effort to end things like this, though knowing him, he'll probably turn a blind eye to it, and count his money quietly in the corner...

Is it bad that as soon as i read the head line i assumed it would be some barbaric Muslim tradition and not a freak accident regarding the WI outing to the peterhead colliery?

    lol.

Though believe me dude, nothing of that sort is even suggested by Islam. In fact, I believe that it is encouraged for girls to choose their suitors... I'd say its more of a cultural thing...
