Yeah, most certainly not anything made by Barrett, you can tell that from that magazine housing, which is the standard size to receive a STANAG mag. Methinks it's probably some monster brewed up by that part of the US firearms industry which seems to be obsessed with producing every variety of firearm possible on the planet but making it out of as many AR-15 parts as possible.

Presumably it's breech loaded as well, the mag reciever looks way too small (dunno what those mags are doing on the table).

Yeah, the 50 is breech loaded, the mags on the table hold 30 rounds for the AR15.
I'll try to get a video when we shoot some tannerite that's wedged in a stump or dead tree.

Looks like one of Stoner's babies, with a muzzle break that just looks wrong on it lol

You ask me, anything that fires .50 and isn't a Browning looks wrong. Weapons chambered in 338 Lapua always just seemed so much more elegant to me. Then again I've always been averse to high calibres.

My GF's uncle has a .22 rifle and a few shotguns. Never tried the shotguns but even the .22 is fun. Did have a go on an SA80 rifle once but it was an army demonstration. Theres some kick off it thats all Ill say, can't imagine what a .50 cal round is like.

Ha! Exactly my thoughts! 18C is BBQ temperature!

To the OP: I'd love to have a go shooting that! What's the kick like? Bear in mind I have almost no experience with guns bar some .22/ SA80 5.56 cadet rifle shooting more than 10 years ago.

5.56 NATO is typically 1700J of energy. .50BMG is >17000J... So you can imagine 10x the recoil of the SA80 you're probably in the vicinity, although you'll feel significantly less thanks to the muzzle brake and a floating breech (if the rifle has one).

As much as the .50 BMG tickles me in all the right places, I tend to agree. Hard to beat the 338 tbh. Most of the stopping power of the .50 when fired at human targets and in my opinion there are a lot of much more practical weapons that chamber it.

Also, I can see this turning from a discussion into an argument pretty easily. Someone call the whaaambulance and make sure it's on standby ;)

That said, a 556 round has virtually no recoil. You can fire those things off on full auto and, of course, you're not going to be accurate at 300m. But keeping them steady for 30 rounds is absolutely no effort if you're an average man.

10x that recoil would be significant, but since you're firing one round at a time, perfectly acceptable for something which was designed to destroy light vehicles, not people.

In short: Counter Strike is full of horse doody. If the screen moves at all when I'm firing on full auto, then my character must be an overly weak, obese, female dwarf.

It's in the educational thread. So which bit of this is educational..........Oh yeah, I've learned that Americans can run round in the woods with a hand held cannon!!

After we came back from shooting, everyone said they could feel the thump in the cabin floor (quarter mile away). The 50 doesn't really hurt but it moves your whole body back about 6 inches. We had a beer can on the atv fall over from the shockwave, that was around 10 feet away. 30 feet back you could feel the blast in every part of your body...:D

I remember reading somewhere that the muzzle brake reduces recoil by half. Funny to think a little piece of metal can drop it by so much.

Hmm. Provided you really pulled the SA80 back into your shoulder, the kick was fine - and that was when I was 14-15. It was only after a long shooting session where I'd began to tire and not hold it so tight that I started to get light bruising. Of course, a .22 has about as much recoil as a bb gun :D .

That's a bit snobbish, they're not "running round in the woods", they're target shooting, and it is educational, I sure as hell didn't know that armour-piercing rounds could do that! :p A lot of us don't know about this stuff. (You included, if you think a rifle that size could be considered hand-held - youtube the videos of people trying to fire them standing up :eeek:)

That's my brother's video. The Barret is such a blast to shoot. I'm not in this video.

mmm... SA80. I miss firing those beautiful rifles :( Damn you Krikkit. DAMN YOU!

I think trying to apply rifle physics to a game is just impossible. So many games just think "Ahh you've fired 5 rounds, you can no longer hit anything" which frankly is BS anyway. The SA80 (Because it's been used before in this thread, and its awesome) can be fired from the shoulder with 28-30 rounds comfortably and still within a pretty wicked group even up to 100 meters on auto.

*Is now looking for Airsoft replica's of L86A2's* Thankyou Gentleman... you've just cost me £550 for a new Airsoft cannon. *looks disprovingly*

It was intended to be a bit tongue in cheek but you seem to have missed it. llamafur must have got it because he gave me some rep, but maybe in a sarcastic way. I don't know..lol .

If I wanted to have a rant about this thread I would have done.
