yes, rs as in radio spares is UK, rs as in radio shack is US. I beleive that Tandy used to be radio shack in the UK but i think they have closed down.

You're obviously shopping at the wrong place!

Rapid Electronics have the following 5mm blue LEDs:
    Code:
Colour Order Code Brightness 1+ 25+
    Water Clear 55-1490 1000mcd 0.99 0.75
    Diffused 55-1480 60mcd 0.70 0.52
    Bright Diffused 55-1495 450mcd 0.99 0.75
    Transparent 55-1485 80mcd 0.70 0.52
    Light Blue 55-1482 100mcd 0.70 0.52

If you need any more info about the LEDs, let me know. You can contact Rapid on 01206 751166. They really are a fantastic company to order from. Very fast and professional service. The prices are ex VAT, and there's a £2.50 delivery charge on orders under £30.

All good modders should really have one their catalogues (£3) as they have a fantastic range of kit :)

No probs. The light one has the following specs:

    Code:
IF max. VF typ. VF max. VR max. view angle wave length
    30mA 4.5v 5.5v 5v 16 degress 430mm

You'll need some 470 Ohm resistors if you want to run them from the 12v line in your PC, so you might want some of those too...

    CR25 0.25w carbon film resistors
    470 Ohm
    Order Code: 62-0362
    Pack of 100
    60p + VAT.

    I'd also recommend farnell - http://www.farnell.co.uk

They had around twenty pages of leds last time I was browsing their catalogue :)

    Cheers,

Just to clear things up; I thought white leds are more expensive than blues. Think I have read somewhere that to make a white led, you first need a blue one, and then add a layer of some crystals or something that gives off a yellow shine when energized. Blue+Yellow=White.

Long story short: A white is actually 2 leds in 1, or something along those lines. Or I may be way off :)

I bought two white LEDs from Rapid, and they weren't cheap.

A couple of quid each IIRC. I haven't installed them yet, as they came with a whole A4 sheet of safety instructions with regard to handling, storage and installation

Yes they do! But their website is even worse than rs's - their paper catalogues (all six of them? Maybe five) are far far more easy to browse :D
