    i have a Gigabyte GA-8S648FX with 512mb ram (2x 256mb in dual channel)
and i want to upgrade to 1024mb ram

should i just put a 512mb ram stick with it or should i get rid of the 2x 256 ram and get 2x 512 ram in dual channel?

is better if you take 2 x 512MB in dualchannel , but only if your board use dualchannel modus.

but if you won't spend to much money you can also buy one 512MB, but then it's not so fast as dualchannel

    I have 2 x 512MB in dualchannel on a asus a7n8x-e deluxe

I'm using 512 of PC133 on a 1.2 Tbird, i'm aiming for building a new computer in the next 3-9 months and i'm getting atleast 1gig of ram and i've just recently started looking at the matched kits of 1024x2 for 2 gig. Only thing that make me apprehensive is the price tag. I'm also waiting on the price of this new generation of vid card to plunge to levels more reasonable. :sigh: For now i'm content with playing wc3/eq on this machine. WoW is most likely going to coincide with my comencing of component shopping! :hehe:

To run Far Cry without any gliches or slowdown you need more than 512mb of ram which was unheard of.God i can remember when 128mb was a massive amount of ram.I'm starting to feel like my Dad.!!

Just tried that... it's perfectly playable, yes. It does improve a great deal with 1Gb tho.... seems less jerky when action gets heavy (end sublevel on the regulator level for instance), and levels load way faster. If I quickly quit farcry and go back to my desktop, I'm just in time to see MBM5 saying I've only got 100Mb or so free. It uses it if it's there, so having it can only be a good thing :D
