The very nice people over at Tweaktown have released a review (& a full in depth one at that) of the 8800GT big brother - the 512MB 8800 GTS. A full 2 weeks before the official release of the card. Well, enough talking & point your mouse over here!!
Nice, looks good, I like the OC results also, this card looks like a winner for me tbh. Crysis benchmarks later also.
Jesus! how do tweaktown get away with this, they did it with the 8800GT as well (admittedly that was only a few days early)
Presumably you have to be under an NDA, contractually-speaking, for its limitations to apply to you. If they never signed an NDA, but someone 'anonymously' sends them the card, then that's probably how they get away with it.. Not a very good review, though - They shouldn't have bothered posting it until they had Crysis benchmarks ready and it couldn't be that hard to find a GTX for comparison - What self-respecting reviews site doesn't have a GTX in their lab? I don't mean to get at you cmberry20, but it's not best practice to post links to another review site on bit-tech forums - I'd imagine Tim and Rich wouldn't mind too much, but I wouldn't do it myself..
FWIW, there's nothing wrong with posting other review sites on the forums - I'm not sure where that belief stemmed from, but you guys are free to chat about what you want to chat about (as long as it's not breaking the forum rules) and if that involves discussing articles on other sites, that's cool with me. I can't talk about the review mentioned in this thread for obvious reasons but you'll be seeing a bit-tech review as and when the card's released though (maybe sooner if I put some weight behind the fact that this review's already on the web).
Cool, thanks Tim I think that belief is a sort of of perpetual hand-me-down in the forum, I saw someone here say it before, who had seen someone else say it, etc. We're just a bunch of sheep, I guess. Baa. Apologies to cmberry20. Can't wait. The only review that really matters is the one that appears on the front page of bit-tech [/fanboy]
Crysis benchmarks in. http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1234/18/page_18_benchmarks_crysis/index.html It beats the GTX by a few FPS on medium at 1920 x 1200, shame they didn't have the 1600 x 1080 scores on there though. And thats without OCing, not bad at all.
Am I blind or why can't I seem to find the OC-scores? I looked through the review pretty fast, but I wasn't really all that impressed. It seems to me that the 8800GT is "enough". Also, before seeing the actual retail price it's hard to say anything about the value.
OC was this. Bear in mind the card is running on crappy drivers? Or am I wrong on that, if not, then I'm sure we will see a little more performance out of it. Price is gonna be around £230 imo.
Thanks major for the advice on holding out for this card it looks like it may just be worth the wait Its tough having crysis sitting in my draw and no way of playing it until i get this card though lol but oh well - patience has its own rewards
NP Solidus, I'm buying the EVGA version when released, as the D8E (I think it's called that) will be released around a month after, or something like that, and when I get enough money I'll step up to it if it's worth it.
anyone think it's worth for me to sell my current GTX and buy a good branded GTS as soon as it came out? so my GTX won't drop in price much.
How much would a 8800 gts 640mb sell for? would that offset the cost of a new gts very much? Also, any news on the holes in the card? would the zalman vf1000 fit? e6600 msi 8800 gts 640 2-4gigs ram 80 gigs 750 watt pcp&c psu asus p5n32-e sli 22 inch monitor
first id wait and see bit-techs review and compare the peformance, then take into account that right now in the states, a used gtx is going for less than a new gt on ebay. so i dont think it would work out unless you found someone who has been living under a rock for the last 2 months.
the new GTS has less memory than my GTX, so what's that got to do with monitors? i've been watching Ebay UK closely, seems like GTX now are still selling for 240+ which i suspect is because of the shortage on GT's. ah hell with it, too much hassle. i'll just sell mine for £100 (possible?) when 9800GTX comes out and put in a kidney for the rest.
Serposidly people have managed to preorder them for 200 quid from somewhere. Where is this? I believe they may have been taken down now. Really annoying. Probably going to be like 50 quid more expensive when the premiums go on.
