I recently installed doom3 and theres no way I can play it because the hard drive is active constantly. I figure this is because the comp is swapping, or is there something else i'm missing? When the harddrive finnally stops (momentarily) my comp seems to be handling the graphics ok.

Doom 3 is one of the few games that can effectively utilize a gig or more of RAM. The swap file for the game is quite massive-around two gigabytes. Before playing the game, ID actually reccomends that you defrag the drive, in order to improve data access times. Try defragmenting your hard drive. That should improve performance. 512 megs of RAM should be enough to do the rest.

2GB eh? I think my swap file is set at 768 to 1536 IIRC, maybe i should give it some more space. I tried messing with it a bit and noticed that I can set a swap file for each drive. Whats up with that?

its just how much space on each drive you want to assign to use as a swap file.

you are probably best off letting windows manage it.
