hey guys and girls STUPID Q can i put a relay in place of an led on a basic 555 timer and if i can do i have to remove the resistor before the led ??? plz help and i read a link about livewire i used the demo it's great can you get it in Australia
From your description, it sounds like you want to put a relay (switch??) on the output pin of the 555 timer, yeah? This would open and close the switch every second. If this is what you're wanting to do, then yeah, sure, you can, but it's probably wise to lose the resistor as it may drop too much voltage across it and cause the relay to not work. If you do find anywhere in Sydney or Australia that sells Livewire, I'd love to know so I can get it too . Also, don't expect a reply within just 3 hours of posting.
sry didn't mean to be rude need it done to night and what pin is what in relation to the circuit diagrams and the ic pin?
Did you even try looking at the datasheet? http://www.national.com/ds/LM/LM555.pdf It's pretty self explanatory.
Will a 555 be able to source enough current to trigger the relay? And shouldn't you have a protective diode to save blowing up your chip when the relay switches off. Finally a relay only has a finitite number of switches before it wears out, you may be better going with a SSR (Solid state relay) or a simple transistor. Rod
