Is a 5730 mobility the same chip as the 5650m, but runs quicker ? Meaning, theoretically ocing a 56 would make it equal as they both have ddr3 @ 800.
I don't know about modern laptop cards, but i've used a program called radlinker (ati only) to overclock my radeon x300m. It's only a slight overclock above max spec but it came a little underclocked as different manufacturers can set the default speed themselves.
You can overclock the ATi in this particular Dell Inspiron 15r by using this thing from Guru3d called 4870 overclock tool, but it works with the 5650m.ock Stock the cards core is 550 (usually), Dell ships it at 450, I have it up to 650 with no issues and not much extra heat. Just wondering (as it will go more) I have the equiv of the 5730.

The GT335m in my M11x is running at 585/1404/1800 up from 450/1180/1590 so they can definately be overclocked. Most can now be overclocked just like their desktop counterparts (using afterburner). Generally speaking for the mobile chips a conbination of heat and lack of core voltage is the killer for overclocking. The 335m I have can definatly go further on the core from a heat perspective but is hobbled by the core voltage. And to answer the ops query - the HD5730 is merely a higher clocked HD5650.
I have my XPS 17's card running at 725/1450/933 up from 590/1180/800 and the 5650 in my sons Inspiron 15R 650/825 up from 450/800. They don't seem to get too hot, not seen temps go over 75 on either during a game.
