A friends pc has recently had WinMe installed on it. It now doesn't seem to recognise the 56k pci modem. There's an ethernet card installed too, which has the yellow alert exclamation(!) symobl in Sys Properties. But, the 56k modem itself isn't recognised. I tried changing the pci slots but it still doesn't show in system properties. Here is a zipped (136k) system report which might help in solving the problem.. Copy-paste into new browser (clicking doesnt work)

    Unzip and open system_report.html

    Any suggestions appreciated..

Need more info! What is the error message for the Network card, and have you installed latest drivers for your motherboard, sis 5513, I think there is an ide driver somewhere for it over here, but dunno if it affect the pci bridge as well? try what prank7ter said first though! Also, just make sure the modem is seated properly, make sure you press it down "real hard". They can be little ******** sometimes!

Prans7er, I tried manual loading but it didn't work. I also tried changing jumpers on the modem (its an old, Rockwell v90) didn't work either.

I'm gonna install a USB card on this machine to run a new USB broadband modem. Just a little worried it won't recognise the USB card either?

    check for conflicts

is it win xp or 98, 95 os?

if there is a conflict i can guide you through the process of correcting a conflict.

also go to the Device manager and view devices by connection right click on the network card with the ? mark click properties go to the general tab and try clicking on re install driver, again manually select source and location of driver.

to check for conflicts do the same as above but select the Resources Tab and check the conflicting device list.

also get that fan on your psu working!!!

Kong.. I'll get to try the sis driver next week and by then the new USB card and modem will be there. Now I'm more concerned about getting the USB host card to work because of the fact the modem isn't registering.

Prank7er.. it's Win Me, I tried doing the manual driver installation on the Ethernet card before but because the PCs very old there's no driver disks. wrote down the serials and searched for drivers but to no avail. oh the psu.. I actually got a new 400w few weeks back, didn't change the sig yet!

Anyway guys, the modem isnt a big problem now as my friends determined on a new broadband connection. Like I said though, the fact the card isn't recognised is the main worry although she was having trouble with internet before so maybe the cards just packed in?

Fingers crossed then! As for the ethernet card, read the writing off of the chip and search for that, rather than searching by serial number. Chances are the chip is a Realtek, so a driver should be easy to find.
