hey guys i just wondered why there are so many 5770 cards on the market, whats the difference in them all and is one worth buying? thanks jake
They're pretty much all the same except for differences in cooling solutions. I'd say they're all equally worth buying. Personally I like the "original" reference version ("Batmobile" cooler) best.
i didnt remember the 5770 coming out in the 'batmobile' cooler...where was i? i guess it did though lol...was it noisy?
see, thats what i thought. but i keep seeing comments about it here and there in the forums as being noisy...
Even though there are 5770s in different brands, they all have the same GPU. Each brand may have different coolers, some may be factory overclocked etc.. When some have very good cooling on a graphic card brand it is easy to overclock them because they will reduce the tempertaures. Some of them come factory overclocked. These cards might be a little bit expensive than the crards at stock speeds. But you can always buy a graphic card at stock speeds, overclock it by yourself and save that extra money. The other is warranty. Different manufacturers give different periods of warranty. Some may be 1 year, some may be 2 years etc.. When the brands differ the cards output ports also differs. Some have 2 HDMI outputs. Some have DVI outputs. This is another difference. There may be other difference among these brands too. And as for upgrading pls give you current specs, what you use your computer for etc.. Then it is easy to advice whether to upgrade to a 5770 or not.
Well vapor cooler gets away with low fan speeds even under load. Last I checked graphics card was at around 48c with 22% fan speed 100% load (5870 in hsf922 case) Pc is as quiet as a pc will get. 4890 orginal cooler was bad 5770 5850 came with decent coolers
yeah, it's a given that vapor-x cooler will do well and be quiet, though i dont like that it dispells the heat inside the case. although, it's less heat than previous generations.
Well, according to a recent test of HD5770 cards in the German c't Magazin, the HD5770 Vapor-X wasn't especially more quiet, but a bit cooler, than the reference version. Considering the markup on most custom-cooled cards I would expect more. And the "Batmobile" coolers at least have the distinction of venting the hot air outside the case. Also, I installed a HD5770 with such a cooler in a friend's HTPC not long ago and was very pleasantly surprised by the noise, or rather the absence of it. It's not completely silent under load, but what noise there is is very subdued and not grating on the ears.
I ordered a non-vapor x today - got the Power Color one, but don't really have a previous reference point for it noise-wise, given that my first card never got going properly.
