Team Akiba (macci and The Stilt) broke 6GHz...cooled with LN2. TEC on the NB. This is only screenshot stable, not bench-stable. Thread @ XS LN2 pics Congrats to them!
sorry but whats the point if you can't use(bench) it? its like having a car that can do 300 mph but only for 3 seconds.
Even if it was prime stable, who do you think wants to keep topping up their PC with liquid nitrogen? It's obviously just a "see what we can do" exercise, rather than a sensible gaming platform...
All of macci's ORB-topping scores are run on LN2, usually on CPU and graphics card. Of course it's not for gaming, but it works for short periods.
ffs i know they aren't going to use it for a gaming rig(you don't use a drag car at Le Man) but they can't even bench it. this OC is like having an engine that blows up as soon as you thumb the throttle. useless /dons asbestos suit.
Dude, if you were the first person to be able to get into Windows and get a screenshot at a world-record breaking speed, you wouldn't? It's benchable at nearly 5.5GHz, btw
why do they need liquid nitrogen and the likes? surly its doesnt need to be cooled to such low temps? what sorta temp does it operate at?
Read the XS thread, you'll see some nice temperature sensor pictures Basically the colder it is, the higher voltage it can tolerate, and the higher it can clock.
boot at those speeds? there is no way in HELL that system could boot 6 Ghz. The only way that they hit those speeds is by using clockgen, and removing the stress of booting.
Will it even be possible to get 6Ghz with sensible cooling - HSF, not liquid nitrogen (you'll need to employ a labourer to controll it!), my guess is that if we make the processor bigger, have a more powerful fan and bigger heatsink, the heat would be spread out more. I know that Intel & AMD probably think that the smaller the better to increase sales, but would a bigger processor be better?
