Hey just a last week built my first custom computer, it has a AMD

Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 ghz with 1 meg of cache, it has 2 gigs ddr of

corsair memory, an 80 gig hardrive, abit kv8-max3 and its about to get

a 9800 pro meh but some of the temps on it are bothering me the system

runs at 96 F the powersupply runs at 106 F and the processor runs at

132 F. besides its heat problems is it an ok computer?

I had to convert that to celsius.... who the hell uses Farenheit anymore??

ANwyay... 55c is a little hot yes. What cooler and heatsink are you using? If you're using the stock AMD cooler, then something is amiss, as so am I, and I'm using a 3400 clocked at 2.4GHz: mine runs at around 30C (around 89F I think) idle, and I've only ever seen it at 50C once... after a huge flight sim session when the ambient room temp was around 35 degrees (set the heatinf wrong, and couldn't be arsed getting up to turn in down again :hehe: )

Are these temps at idle, or fully loaded? If they're idle, yes.. something is wrong. 55C is safe, if that's a loaded temp... just not ideal. If at idle... BAAAD!!!.. as it will only get hotter when working hard.

What is your case and PSU? These things matter with air cooling.

That actually seems about average for that chip, at least on the max3 mobo. I have a very similar setup and get about the same temps with the stock cooler. What i haven't worked out is if it really is that hot or if its just the motherboard thermometer getting it wrong.

it seems to be an exceptional system, i would almost think your just asking to brag, which is not on :nono:

but other than that it seems good. Then again for me, I would say anything which runs ut2004 in any form is a good computer (mine does, 2100+ XP, gf2 MX, 256mb RAM). Good computer isnt solely defined by its hardware, its defined also by how its used and how its setup etc etc etc :)

Yest its idle that temp, i have this case http://www.gameve.com/gve/Store/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=CS-RAID-868WB yeah but i dont get any system alarms so :miffed:

and im not trying to realy brag, but my friends have computers that are alot better but what the whole question is it a good computer with those temperatures or is it bad.

oh yeah, another thing that realy bugs me is when i start to load a game like unreal 2004, i get squeeking near the motherboard fan on the abit, but it isnt allways like that, it just does that when i run hard games. everything runs fine of coarse but it squeeks, not like a system alarm, but the only way i could define it as is electrical squeking, and it is not realy loud so meh...

If your friends have better systems, I want to know what those are! That is an incredibly (Possibly it can be considered overly) powerful system! How many fans are you running in that thing? You just might have need for some better ones. My brother in law is running that system nearly identically, except it has less RAM but two Hard Drives in Raid 0. I think temperature wise, yoou are just lacking fans for cooling. Nice system BTW. Maybe you should get a better PSU that has a bottom intake fan to improve cooling-that might also be part of your problem.

So what kinds of systems are your friends running anyways? I havent a clue what they could be if they are better-why dont you include some of their specs?

EDIT: You hear a squeeking sound eh? Check the PSU. I think you might need to go with something better than the stock Power Supply that came with the case. Those are usually crappy things.

Sounds like a temp sensing fan kicking into high gear. I find chipset fans never have the sticker on strait. Causes the fan to spin off balance and eventually wear out. I pull em off now.

meh i think my problem is that i need a good heat sink and a good fan and a good fan for the front, anyone got any suggestions.

The case seems to have good airflow (front and rear fans), so maybe the PSU.. A good PSU should have a decent exhaust fan on the rear panel, and an intake fan on the underside, facing down, above the CPU. This directs airflow over the HSF and out through the PSU as well as out through the rear of the chassis. I know this is essential for a very simple reason: When I first built this system, I had a PSU that I had to change due to a problem causing it to not shut down. I changed it out for an Enermax supply, which is superior in every way, except one - The intake fan is thermally controlled. This is a good thing surely, I hear you say... well.. yes, except for one reason: Fan speed is determined by the PSU temp, not the CPU temp, and as the PSU is not really being stressed, the fan always ran slow compared to the first PSU which ran at full speed. I noticed that my CPU temps went up from 30C idle, to 45C idle!! I disconnected the thermal control, and made the fan run at full speed (and it's no noisier as a result) and now it's back down to 30c idle.

grrr, but what causes the squeek its not a fan i think there is a server problem with the electricity going through the board and i think there is some kind of interference but and i sort of did not understand about where to place fans im a n00bie at building computers this is my first one.

How loud is this squeak? My 9800 pro makes a noise when pushed hard... but more like a hissing sound than a squeak... it's very quiet though.

If you have a addin sound card, move it to the last pci slot. It helps cut the interference.
