Hi, For the same price i can have: - AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5000+ - 22" widescreen ----------------- or ----------------- - Intel® Core™2 Duo E4500 (2Mo L2 Cache, 2,20GHz,800bus) - 20" widescreen The rest of the config is the same for both systems. I think Intel cpu is better but does is makes a big diference? Thanks!
Between THIS Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 and the AMD, not really. I think it will be the same. I would recommend the Intel ore 2 Duo E6600, as you have a faster CPU (2.4Ghz, more L2 cache (2MB per core), and faster FSB) if money is an issue then for a little more you can have the AMD Athlon 64 5600+. Where you have 1MB of L2 cache per core instead of 512Kb, and well it's faster! The 5000+ is not worth it. For me I see the AMD Athlon 64 5000+ at $139.00 Canadian, and the 5600+ at 149.00$.
Which ever CPU you decide to go with, don't bother to buy a 22" screen... Use the same money on a proper 20" and instead of two inches you'll get sooo many colors.
I want to buy a pre-made computer since I have no knowledge in computer assembly. I've been browsing arround for few days and Dell seam to have the best system for around 1000$. - Dell Inspiron 530 (Intel) comes with a 20" widescreen monitor. - Dell Inspiron 531 (AMD) comes with a 22" widescreen monitor. Both monitors have fairly good reviews. What should I choose? Edit: It comes with a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 but i wonder if the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS (90$ less) would do the job. I won't be playing games and I will have windows vista.
Why isn't now the perfect time to start to correct that? You are already on a site where most of the members feel more comfortable tinkering inside their computers than inside a woman
Buiding my own PC would be more expensive and I would have to buy Windows Vista ($$$). Do you thin a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS would be able to run vista aero on a 20"-22" monitor? Thanks!
Vista isn't SO heavy it would require a upper-end graphics card. If you're sure you don't want to play anything with your computer then 8300GS should do just fine. I don't know where you checked the prices or what kind of price you put on the time it takes for you to assemble the rig, but I'd say you get a better setup if you build it yourself.
with the dell, ur buying vista also, and your paying for offbrand parts. when you build, a similar system would be cheaper and for a similar price a better system could be built.
If i try to build it with the peaces from http://www.sohodiffusion.com, which is the closest dealer and seam to have fairly low prices, it's more expensive to built the PC i would have from dell. Here the full config of my 1000$ Inspiron: Core 2 duo E4500 Vista Premium 2 Gb SDRAM DDR2 667MHz (2 DIMMs) 250Go HDD 256Mb InVidia GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 DVD burner 20" widescreen Internal wireless 802.11 PCI adapter How would it be possible to built a superior system for less money? Thanks for your help
first of all use newegg. and here is a better quality system. dvd burner 320 gig hard drive evga 8600gt pc power & cooling 470 watt psu 2 gig g.skill ram ds3l mobo inter core 2 duo e6550 vista home premium 20.1 inch lcd monitor this comes to a total of 903 dollars usd. now all you need is a case and a wireless adapter. although im not sure why you need a wireless adapter. another option would be to get this wireless adapter and the antec sonata III and your price would be $981. the antec sonata III comes with a power supply so you would not need to by the pc power & cooling one. that is how you can build a better quality computer for the same price. with this extra 20 dollars you could get a bigger hard drive, or a faster processor or faster ram or a faster videocard or a faster dvd burner. the problem with you is you need a monitor and windows vista otherwise you would have another 300 to spend. also you know have the option of overclocking your processor, ram, and video card.
I second the GeForce 8600 GT. It is an alright card for the money if you prefer it over the equivalent Radeon 2600 XT. Good luck on the build!
In many conditions Dell offer a better performance computers for what you pay as they order super large quantity. Yet custom build computer offers you great flexibility and upgrade flexibility, better warranty coverage, and quality. Moreover with custom build computer, if let's say your optical drive fails to work... unlike Dell you don't need to ship back the hole (computer tower that is) to them, and cross your fingers that they fix it under warranty. In addition you don't fall under some riup-off tricks from Dell (or HP, or other computer assembly brand), as overcharge certain products like. on Dell.ca, for the XPS under graphic card this is what Dell offers you: 128MB Radeon ATI HD 2400 PRO [Included in Price] if you want a more powerfull video card you can get: 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS [add $350 or $9/month1] 350$!!! For 250$ Canadian, you can get an ASUS Geforce 8800 with 512MB of memory. So it's not all to nice with pre-build computers
@pillow Since I live in Canada newegg wouldn't be the best site to shop. I decided to try to make my own config on ncix.com and see how mutch it would cost.... So I have around 700$ to spend excluding the monitor and windows vista. *I need a wireless adapter since the computer will be in another room away from my modem. With the cheapest pieces of hardware that I found on NCIX, including keyboard and mouse, I would cost me around 900$. I know that those components might be better that Dell's but is that worth 200$ more? I would be more than happy to built my own computer but I'm not convice yet that this is the way to go.
i guess im lucky in some ways living in the U.S. our prices are more reasonable. go with the core 2 duo processor and the 8300gs is you dont want to play games. now that you will have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, os, next time you can/need a new computer, you can spend that full grand on a fresh build.
Is there any way to get the newegg products deliver in Canada? Since the canadian dollar worth more that the USD it would be great for me...
If you're a Canadian resident, why didn't you say so? I live in Canada and can show you the cheapest prices around
