soem nob at work sold me a cheap assed mobo. an msi6340 that i was gonna use to build a cheep pc for a mate. wanted to test the board as the guy like i say is a nob. but al my systems are intel and the board wants an amd... ok, quick trip to my parents house where i spot that my little sisters sims machine is running a joyous little duron 1.2. so i open it up and spot a huge ****off volcano 7+ in there. no worries i think, al u have to do is whack a screwdriver in the little clip and push... oops, slipped. never mind lets try again - Bugger slipped again. quick inspection of the board shows no visible damage so i have another go, pushing down harder this time in the hope that the screw driver will stay in the bloody clip. obviously the ****er again slips and i now have a large scratch on the board and starting to worry if this thing will work again. so, put pc back together and power up... posts ok but crashes before windows loads up. **** sis is gonna be pissed (at least it posts tho, that's gotta be a good sign right?) after some fiddling with the bios i am ready to give up and fork out for a new board. until i spot an option to run the bus at 66mhz... worth a try surely? and whadda ya know it runs 100% again!... now considering flashing the bios but not sure if this is a good idea after the damage i have done to the board. i knew there was a reason why i prefer intel chips....
i killed my 2nd K7S5A removing a volcano 7+ terrible think to remove never got it running again. to be fair it isn't AMD's fault although i now use a p4 lol
lot of people have damaged something while installing/unintalling heatsinks on amd board... I've scratched my ddr slots while installing my ax7... now I use longloose to get the clip out of the slugs and a screw driver to put the clip on the slugs and didn't had any problems since... the trick to get the clip out (well it works for my at least) is to get longloose and hold the little pin on the clip as hard as you can with the longloose... after that, removing the clip off the slugs is a piece of cake anyway... hope you'll be able to run that mobo
i thought 7+ were supposed to be idiot proof... They have the secure 3 lug clip with the casing for the screwdriver...... I dunno i think its a piece of cake to put on a heat sink...
what's a longloose? i use needle nose pliers to remove, back of one of those tiny screwdrivers to put back on again
well the real word I think is long nose pliers... but we call it here longloose... don't ask me where it comes from
I did that to a friends mobo. I was putting in a new processor for him, and I scratched the damn thing. Didn't run at all. I just bought him a new mobo and let him do it...
I guess the lesson is don't buy volcano 7+??? The one i gots fins are like small and nerfed.. its kinda weird.... Anyway i have a zalman..
