in the following games i experiance normal play, no choppy gameplay no slow downs, smooth:

    Quake4
    Serious Sam 2
    CS

in the following games i experiance slow downs, jerking/choppy gameplay:

    CS:S
    HL2
    NFSMW

The problems arnt just experianced when in normal settings, even LOW LOW LOW qual settings like 640x480 with everything off, i get choppy game play. all games installed on same HD.

    System specs:

    P4 3.0C @ 4GHz *air cooled* never above 60
    1Gb Geil ultra 533MHz
    6800LE *12x5, 325/700*
    160Gb maxtor ide 8mb

try increasing vAGP to about 1.6v. Then with the coolbits registry hack you should get the option to select how many frames forceware "renders ahead". Set that to 0. That gives me the smoothest gameplay on my 6800GT.

    didnt help, thnx for suggestion.

is there anyway to test the memory of the graphics card, like a detailed test?

Not really, unfortunately - the only way you can check for errors is if you're seeing artifacts. What drivers are you using? Check that you're running the latest chipset drivers, forceware drivers and also running the latest BIOS on your motherboard too.

ive got latest drivers off nvidia site, i have not yet tried latest chipset and bios yet, i wanted to leave that till last resort as it was working fine on my other gfx cards. 9800pro x800 on same system. but i will try that later today.

updated to Latest BIOS, and latest intel chipset drivers, and still no change. game play still stutters, its like when its loading new textures/world to screen it freezes for split second, it occurs quite often and makes game play suck hard!

as mentioned before thats even on lowest settings possible.

Im also getting this same probem, but ive put it down to the lack of system ram (512), but you should be fine with 1gb! Also, turning frame rendering off or down to 1 made it even choppier for me.

it took lots of whinin and moanin for me to bite my tongue and buy nvidia, since i switched from gf2 gts to an ati 9700pro, its been ati all the way for me, in all my systems at home, i thought id give this "value" nvidia card a try, im now thinkin a £20 cheaper refurbed 9800pro would have been the most wise choice. but thats me :p

I think you've got a faulty card, I can't think what else it could be.

Yes. However, I remember HardOCP having issues with a card they had, but only in BF2 - every other game ran flawlessly. Have you run the card in its default pipeline configuration? That is the last thing it could be.

yes tried that, same effect. i was just pulling it out to replace it with my x800 and i decided to OC the mem and benchmark it, work it hard and see how hot the ram gets, weirdest thing i noticed, some of the ram chips are getting warm others arnt, and when i say warm i mean warm, not hot, worryingly cool. im used to ati style 9800 sizzling hot ram is it normal for it to be soo cool, and some of them warm and others not...

another thought - can you see any damaged traces that go to the 'cold' memory chips? It could be that the traces are damaged, meaning that the board isn't utilising all of its memory (hence why it is colder).

seems to be fine now, i dunno maybe fingers were numb last night, all heatin up fine. just an update though, i read on some forums today (guru3d) that people with 6800gt's 6800 ultra and 6600gt are experiancing the same sort of stutter on NFSMW.

so i went back to my cs:s and fiddled with it, read around and increased the heapsize, which has pretty much eliminated the stuttering, so now the only game which stutters is nfs:mw...

so there is hope after all.... i think?

Did you try changing the CPU affinity (I assume you've got hyperthreading enabled) to just one core?

just tried, no effect, im not as *worried* about it now as i was before, knowning im not alone in this issue. its still annoying, it put me off playing this game, so i completed it last night while on my x800 :p works fine on that but shadows are blocky, its like this game doesnt want to run in its glory on any of my cards :D
