Just a quick question. I know I prob miss the boat on these cards. But I got a major itch to upgrade at the moment. Are they worth getting for 1440p gaming ? I found a gre for less than £550. And a 7800xt for around £440.. brand new. Or just hold on a bit longer Will be paired a 5600x. Will be getting a 5700x3d and a new Asus TUF Gaming 850W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Well whether they are worth it or not at least partially depends on what you're coming from, I think the 7800xt is probvably a good buy at that price, or could look for a 2nd hand 4070/4070s which I think sandwich it. I tend to use this to get a rough comparison of gpus: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
I suppose the question is also how much will the 9070 cost and the 5070s when they eventually come out on decent numbers
The other point of course is what games/situations are you noticing a problem with your current setup, and have you checked utilisation to get an idea of what is being the limiting factor?
I mean I don't have too upgrade.. it's just in my head now that I want to and once it is in my head it stays in there for months until i do it. I still get 80+ FPS in all games with quality almost max with fsr turned on..
I wouldn't pay a £110 premium for the 7900 GRE, back when it launched it was super attractive because it was only like 10 - 20 more than the 7800 XT.... but £110 is too much difference between the two. With that being said, might as well wait a month... as AMD will launch new cards in early march.
So to the classic question is maybe it's worth looking to upgrade something else that you interact with ie mouse, keyboard, monitor, desk, chair etc
Done it all recently haha. Monitor recently to 1440p, new mech keyboard and new mouse.. Desk perfectly fine and chair... Maybe just some self control is needed !!
